Cafe Altura's Fair Trade Sumatran promotes exotic flavor notes, 
while our Dark Roast adds richness that blends well with the 
heavy, syrupy body. In the far reaches of the South Pacific 
Ocean lies the Indonesian Island of Sumatra; an exotic land of 
warmth and moisture ideal for growing great coffees. This unique 
coffee is from the Gayo region in the northwestern corner of 
Sumatra. The coffee is cultivated under ideal conditions at an 
altitude of between 1200 and 1600 meters. Shade is used by the 
farmers to produce food and protect the coffee trees. ""Farm 
certified"" by a European agency, SKAL and ""Process Certified"" 
by the Demeter Association, our Sumatran coffee is farmed by a 
group of 105 small village farmers under the supervision of 
ForesTrade Inc., a Vermont based importer/trader of organic 
spices and coffees.
