Hyssop herb (Hyssopus officinalis) is native to Central Asia and the east Mediterranean region. Hyssop herb is an herbaceous semi-wood plant, bearing blue flowers. It has an aromatic and minty flavor, and it is used in various forms including herbal paste, infusion, essential oil and tea. Hyssop was known as “Holy or Sacred herb” in ancient times due to its enormous medicinal and health benefits, and found its place even in the Old Testament as a purifier. It was recorded in the Book of Exodus that on the night of the Passover, hyssop would be used to apply the blood of those sacrificed onto doorposts. The use of hyssop was then carried on and studies found more of its health benefits. Hyssop in modern times is known for its anti-microbial and antiseptic properties. It is proven to be effective against diseases resulting from viral infections such as cough, flu, tonsillitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, eczema, dermatitis and inflammation. It is generally used to treat symptoms of cardiovascular disorders. It is both a sedative and a stimulant; and one of its uses is to regulate the blood pressure whether it is too high or too low. It is also a nervine, serving as a tonic for the nervous system; keeping the nervous system healthy and help avoid nervous disorders. It also aids in digestion and being a stimulant, it stimulates secretion of gastric juices (acid, enzymes, bile) into the stomach to speed up decomposition of the complex proteins, carbohydrates and other nutrients, and facilitates passage of food stuffs through the intestines. Hyssop capsule is designed to aid the body from the above mentioned ailments and to act as sudorific. Hyssop, acting as sudorific, stimulates the sweat glands to help bring a lot of perspiration and frees the body from toxins, water and extra salts.
