American Ginseng
A now endangered species of plants, American Ginseng is an herb used for herbal medicinal purposes. Found from Maine to Georgia and from Oklahoma to Minnesota, is primarily used for mental awareness, stamina and energy. American Ginseng has properties that fight fatigue and stress in conjunction with boosting the immune system. Native Americans used to use the tea to treat nausea and vomiting. They also used this as an added ingredient in their “love potions”.
Studies today have found that American Ginseng strengthens the heartbeat and blood pressure by maintaining appropriate potassium levels in the body. The ginseng also converts amino acid Arginine to nitric oxide to relax the blood vessels. American ginseng has been mostly used for restoring male stamina or sex drive. If taken regularly for one to three months, American ginseng can regulate the production of stress hormones by aiding the body in adapting to differing temperatures and stress. So when the individual is exposed to stress, the body’s reaction to stress is highly reduced. This type of ginseng may also help increase fertility in women, so this should not be taken with women using birth control. Also, if taken with the use of caffeinated foods or drinks, then sleep may become a problem. So take the ginseng only in the morning and avoid later on in the day.
