The Health Benefits of Strontium
Strontium is a fairly common element, though many have never heard of it other, perhaps, than in terms of its isotope strontium 90, believed to be responsible for the resurrection of Godzilla and that was also a 1977 UK band featuring Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers. It is present in trace amounts in bone, yet is essential for bone formation since it catalyzes the fusion of calcium into bone.
A strontium supplement can be taken to reverse osteoporosis, and some studies indicate that not only does it help the bone structure to form, but also inhibits the re-absorption of calcium back into the general body. It can double the rate of osteoporosis reversal. There is also fairly strong evidence that it has the same effect on cartilage, and so strontium can be used to help treat osteoarthritis.
Other properties of the strontium atom are that it can help prevent the formation of cavities in the teeth by strengthening tooth enamel, and also reduce the risk of bone fractures brought about by bone cancer or osteoporosis.
