Sugar is also known as sucrose, is a carbohydrate that occurs naturally in every fruit and vegetable in the known world. It is produced by photosynthesis, the process by which plants transform the sun light into food sugar energy. Sugar occurs in greatest quantities in sugar cane and sugar beets from which are generally used in commerce as sweeteners for food stuff. There is no significant difference in the sugar produced from the cane or beet. Sugar cane, a large grass, thrives (grows) in a warm, moist climate. It stores up sugar in its stalk. The sugar beet (different than cane) grows best in a temperate climate and stores its sugar in its white root which is in the ground. Sugar from both sources are “produced by nature” in the same fashion (but in different quantities) which produce sugar as a means of storing the sun's energy. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
