Mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana L) is found primarily in
southeast Asia and is composed of a rind, pulp and seeds. Utah
based Xango, LLC company cites studies showing that “most of the
fruit’s xanthones and flavonoids are found in the rind or skin
of the fruit, as well as the sweet tasting pulp.” For this
reason the company asserts, it has developed a proprietary
process that enables it to produce a juice that delivers the
nutritional benefits of the entire Mangosteen, including both
the pulp and the rind and says that 1 – 3 ounces per day is
enough to unleash the power of xanthones in its juice.
Other published examinations of the Mangosteen fruit’s xanthones
suggest that this fruit is a powerful antioxidant to combat
inflammation and free radical damage in the body. With this
being so, xanthones in small amounts can have an effect on
cancer as well as life extension (anti-aging) fruit.
Research suggests that xanthones from Mangosteen fruit
significantly inhibit COX-2 and 5-LOX enzymes, providing an
anti-inflammatory effect for those who use the fruit. More
research will only unveil more benefits this Mangosteen fruit
has in the years to come.
