What does this mean for the athlete?
Growth
hormone increases the rate at which amino acids are picked up
and enter the cell for metabolism into protein. This is referred
to as anabolism. The more protein available to the muscle cell,
the greater the potential for an increase in the size and actual
number of cell tissue. Considering the fact that muscle tissue
is 80% protein (dry weight), it's easy to see how important
protein and the rate it's delivered to cell tissue is to muscle
development.
Although growth hormone is released on a 24 hour
cycle, the peak points of release are the first few hours of
deep sleep (known as R.E.M.), after an intense workout, and upon
arising in the morning. Research has shown that proper usage of
