Lycopene – for Prostate
Lycopene - Have you had your tomato sauce today? This member of the family of phytochemicals known as carotenoids, is a powerful antioxidant that is found in red fruits and vegetables, especially tomatoes, watermelon, red grapefruit, and guava. Researchers have linked the frequent use of lycopene from tomatoes to lower risk of prostate and other cancers. Interestingly, in one study, researchers found that significantly lower serum and tissue lycopene levels were observed in the cancer patients than in their control group, indication that lycopene prevents oxidative damage of biomolecules and consequently reduces the risk of prostate cancer.
