Manganese (Trace Mineral)
Applications: Only trace amounts required for blood sugar regulation and fat and protein metabolism. Manganese is vital for proper bone growth and works in tandem with B-complex vitamins. It is recommended for lactation, diabetes, asthma, muscle and mental fatigue, epilepsy, PMS, and digestion.
Sources: Dried fruits, whole grains, nuts and green leafy vegetables.
Interactions: Antacids can interfere with manganese absorption as can excess magnesium, calcium, copper, zinc or iron. Too much manganese can also interfere with the assimilation of these same minerals.
Recommendations: Look for chelated types, such as manganese picolinate or gluconate.
