Everyone knows that eating healthy can make your life better. What most people do not realize is that the food you eat can affect your life span. A new study is looking at peppers and says they can do just that, extend your life. It is not completely understood yet, but add them to your diet.
- Eating hot chili peppers may help you live longer.
- After controlling for age, sex, smoking, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and other health, diet and behavioral characteristics, they found that those who reported eating hot peppers had a 13 percent reduced risk for dying early.
- Still, they write, capsaicin, the substance that gives peppers their punch, has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that may be linked to disease prevention.
