The Importance of Collagen for Your Health: Why You Should Care

Have you ever heard about collagen? It might have been a buzzword in the beauty industry, but it's important to know that collagen is much more than just skin-deep. Collagen is actually a protein that plays a crucial role in providing structure, strength, and support to different parts of our bodies such as skin, bones, tendons, and ligaments. Lets explore the importance of collagen for your health, its different types and functions, the effects of collagen loss on the body, factors that affect collagen production, and how to boost collagen levels naturally.

Factors That Affect Collagen Production:

Collagen production declines naturally with aging, leading to visible signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin, and brittle nails. However, several lifestyle factors also contribute to collagen loss like smoking, consuming sugary foods, and excessive sun exposure. Medical conditions like scleroderma and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome also lead to reduced collagen production.

The Effects of Collagen Loss on the Body:

Collagen loss can have various detrimental effects on the body. One of the most visible effects is on the skin where collagen loss leads to wrinkles, fine lines, sagging, and dryness. Collagen loss also affects joints, resulting in pain and stiffness. Since collagen is crucial to maintaining bone structure, a decrease in collagen levels Weakens the bones and muscles, causing osteoporosis. Collagen is important for the digestive tract lining, so when the body lacks sufficient collagen, people could experience digestive issues.

Lifestyle Habits Leading to Collagen Loss:

Several lifestyle habits exacerbate the natural decline in collagen production, thereby speeding up the aging process and negatively affecting overall health. First among these is smoking. The chemicals present in cigarettes damage collagen and elastin, causing premature skin aging with characteristic wrinkles and sagging. Not only does smoking impact the skin, but it also affects collagen-rich organs and tissues, leading to various health problems.

Next is the consumption of excessive sugar and refined carbohydrates. A high-sugar diet interferes with collagen's ability to repair itself, leading to inflammation and collagen cross-linking that results in skin aging and joint discomfort. Refined carbohydrates spike blood sugar levels, encouraging the same damaging process.

Last but not least, ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, particularly from the sun, can also lead to significant collagen loss. UV light increases collagen breakdown by activating enzymes called matrix metalloproteinases that degrade collagen and elastin. This exposure results in photoaging of the skin, characterized by deep wrinkles, leathery texture, and pigmentation changes. Therefore, it's crucial to protect your skin from the sun by wearing SPF every day, even on cloudy days.

How to Boost Collagen Levels Naturally:

Fortunately, several natural ways can help boost collagen levels in your body. Maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, zinc, copper, and iron is key to boosting collagen levels. Vitamin C is vital in the production of collagen, which makes it an essential nutrient for the body. Excessive sun exposure and smoking lead to the accumulation of free radicals that damage collagen, so avoiding these is key. In addition, the topical use of skincare products like sunscreen and moisturizers protects and nourishes collagen and helps maintain healthy skin. Exercise such as weight training and yoga can help stimulate collagen synthesis, ensuring youthful-looking skin, healthy joints, and strong bones.

Common types of collagen!

  • Type I Collagen: This is the most abundant type of collagen in the body. It's primarily responsible for providing structure to the skin, tendons, organs, and the bone matrix. It also plays a crucial role in wound healing.
  • Type II Collagen: This type of collagen is primarily found in cartilage and serves as the main component of our joints. It's important for maintaining healthy joint movement and reducing the effects of joint-related aging.
  • Type III Collagen: Often found alongside Type I, Type III collagen supports the structure of muscles, organs, and arteries. It's also a key component in the body's natural healing processes.
  • Type IV Collagen: This type forms the basis of the cell basement membrane and plays a critical role in maintaining cell and tissue health by aiding filtration.
  • Type V Collagen: This type of collagen is found in the surfaces of cells, hair, and placenta. It's important for various cellular processes, including the growth and development of cells and tissues.

Collagen is an essential protein that is vital for overall health and well-being. It provides support and structure to different body parts, ensuring their optimum functionality. The decline in collagen production is an inevitable part of aging, but several natural ways can help boost its levels. Maintaining a balanced diet, avoiding habits that damage collagen, and practicing regular exercise can help maintain healthy collagen levels. It's crucial to remember that relying solely on supplements may not necessarily boost collagen levels, so it's best to consult your healthcare provider before taking them. So, go ahead and adopt healthy habits to maintain healthy levels of this crucial protein. Your body will thank you for it!

Subject: The Many Health Benefits of Copper Glycinate

You may not realize it, but copper is essential for many different bodily functions. This trace mineral is involved in energy production, iron metabolism, connective tissue syntheses, and neurotransmitter production. Copper is also critical for bone health, cardiovascular health, lipid metabolism, neurological health, skin health, and free radical protection. Keep reading to learn more about the many health benefits of copper.

Copper and Energy Production

One of the most important roles that copper plays in the body is in energy production. Copper is a key component of mitochondria, which are known as the "powerhouses of the cell." The mitochondria produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the energy currency of the cell. Therefore, without adequate copper levels, your cells would not be able to produce enough ATP for optimal function.

Copper and Iron Metabolism

Another important role of copper is in iron metabolism. Copper is necessary for the absorption and utilization of iron in the body. Iron is a key component of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen around in the blood. Therefore, without adequate copper levels, your body would not be able to properly utilize iron, leading to anemia or other problems.

Copper and Connective Tissue Synthesis

Copper is also necessary for the synthesis of collagen and elastin, two proteins that make up connective tissue. Connective tissue includes things like skin, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. Therefore, copper is necessary for healthy skin as well as strong tendons and ligaments.

As you can see, copper plays many vital roles in the body. If you are deficient in copper, you may experience fatigue, anemia, Weak bones or connective tissue, problems with lipid metabolism or neurological function, or poor skin health. To ensure that you are getting enough copper in your diet, eat foods like liver, oysters, lobster, dark chocolate, avocados, almonds, mushrooms ,or leafy green vegetables. You can also take a copper supplement if needed.

Subject: The Benefits of NOW Calcium & Magnesium Citrate Powder with Vitamin D3

NOW Calcium & Magnesium Citrate Powder with Vitamin D3 is an optimal bone structure support formula designed by NOW's certified nutritionists.* It contains key nutrients that play essential roles in bone metabolism.* The citrate forms of calcium and magnesium are highly absorbable and support not only strong bones and teeth but muscle and nerve function as well.* Vitamin D3 is included to complement calcium and magnesium and its role in the maintenance of mineral homeostasis and bone structure.*

Why Calcium is Important for Your Bones

Most people are aware that calcium is important for strong bones, but many don’t know why. Calcium is a mineral that works together with phosphorus to build strong bones and teeth. When you don’t have enough calcium, your body will take it from your bones, which can lead to Weak bones or osteoporosis. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are good sources of calcium, but you can also get it from dark green leafy vegetables, tofu, almonds, and sardines. If you can’t get enough calcium from food alone, you may need to take a supplement.

The Importance of Magnesium

Magnesium is another mineral that’s critical for bones—in fact, it’s required for the proper absorption of calcium. Magnesium also helps regulate blood pressure, supports immunity, and aids in muscle contraction and relaxation. Good sources of magnesium include dark chocolate, bananas, avocados, almonds, and spinach.

Vitamin D3 for Healthy Bones

Vitamin D3 is a type of vitamin D that your body can more easily absorb. vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus (which help form strong bones), supports immunity, maintains healthy blood pressure levels, and aids in muscle contraction. You can get vitamin D from sunlight exposure (about 15 minutes a day), fatty fish such as tuna or salmon, beef liver or egg yolks. You can also take supplements if you need to.

In Summary:

To maintain strong bones throughout your lifetime, make sure to include NOW Calcium & Magnesium Citrate Powder with Vitamin D3 in your diet!* This optimal bone structure support formula not only contains calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D3—key nutrients that play essential roles in bone metabolism—but it also uses the absorbable citrate forms of calcium and magnesium so you can be sure your body is getting the most out of these minerals.* Supplementing with NOW Calcium & Magnesium Citrate Powder with Vitamin D3 can help support not only strong bones and teeth but also muscle function.*

Need more sleep try melatonin!

What is Melatonin?

Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate our sleep-wake cycles. It's produced naturally by our bodies in response to darkness and starts to increase in the evening as we prepare for bed.

How Does Melatonin Work?

Many people take melatonin supplements in an effort to improve their sleep quality. And there is some evidence to suggest that it can be helpful. One small study found that melatonin supplements helped people fall asleep faster than placebo pills did. However, the effects were only temporary, lasting for just three days.

Another study looked at the effects of melatonin on people with insomnia due to jet lag. This research found that melatonin supplements shortened the time it took for participants to fall asleep by about an hour on average.

It's important to note that these studies looked at short-term usage of melatonin supplements. There's not much research available on the long-term effects of taking this supplement.

If you're struggling to get enough sleep, you might be wondering if supplements could help. One popular option is melatonin. But what is it, and does it really work? Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate our sleep-wake cycles which is produced naturally by our bodies in response to darkness.. Subject: Stress, the body, and a possible solution.

We've all heard of stress, and we all know that it can have an effect on our bodies, but what exactly is stress? Stress is the body's response to any demand placed upon it. When we perceieve a threat, whether it's real or imagined, our body reacts accordingly. The autonomic nervous system kicks into gear, releasing a number of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones increase heart rate and blood pressure while also boosting energy levels. This "fight-or-flight" response is meant to help us deal with perceived danger, but when it's constantly activated, it can take a toll on our physical and mental health.

The Effects of Chronic Stress

Chronic stress can lead to a number of different health problems, both physical and mental. It can Weaken the immune system, making us more susceptible to illness. It can also cause headaches, stomach problems, insomnia, and anxiety. In extreme cases, it can even lead to heart disease or stroke.

Stress management is important for maintaining good health and preventing these problems from developing. There are a number of different ways to manage stress, including exercise, relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga, spending time with supportive friends or family members, and seeking professional help if necessary.

While some amount of stress is inevitable in life, it's important to keep it under control to prevent it from having a negative impact on our health. If you find yourself struggling to manage your stress levels, don't hesitate to seek out professional help. In the meantime, there are plenty of self-care techniques that can be effective in managing stress such as exercise, relaxation techniques, and spending time with loved ones.

Is there a solution?

Everyone experiences stress from time to time, whether it's from work, school, or personal relationships. When left unchecked, stress can lead to serious health problems like anxiety and depression. Fortunately, there are ways to combat stress before it takes a toll on your health. One of the most effective ways is to take a B-complex supplement. B-vitamins are essential for maintaining a healthy nervous system, and they've been shown to help the body cope with stressful situations. In addition, B-vitamins help to regulate mood and energy levels, which can further help to reduce stress. If you're looking for a natural way to manage stress, a B-complex supplement may be just what you need.

Adding Vitamin C to your diet can help as well

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that plays a role in many different body processes. It is known for its immune-boosting properties, but it can also help to reduce oxidative stress and improve overall stress levels in the body. Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species and the body's ability to detoxify them. This can lead to cell damage and inflammation, which can contribute to the development of chronic diseases. However, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps to neutralize reactive oxygen species, protecting cells from damage. Additionally, vitamin C plays a role in the production of adrenal hormones, which helps to regulate stress levels in the body. As a result, adding vitamin C to your diet can help reduce oxidative stress and improve overall stress levels in the body.

No matter what life sends your way, try to stress out and take a quality B-vitamin and Vitamin C can help.

It's that time of year again. The leaves are changing color, the days are getting shorter, and people are starting to get sick. If you're looking for a way to boost your immune system, you may want to consider taking vitamins C and D. These two essential nutrients have been shown to be beneficial for immune health, and can help keep you healthy during the cold and flu season. Lets discuss the benefits of Vitamins C and D for immunity, as well as how to get them into your diet.

What are Vitamins C and D, and what do they do for the immune system?

vitamins C and D are essential nutrients that play a vital role in supporting the immune system. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect cells from damage, while vitamin D helps to regulate the body's response to infection. Both vitamins are found in a variety of foods, including citrus fruits, leafy greens, eggs, and fatty fish. In addition, both vitamins can also be taken as supplements. While both vitamins are important for immune system health, vitamin C is particularly critical during times of heightened stress or illness, as it helps to boost the body's production of white blood cells. Vitamin D, on the other hand, is essential for maintaining a healthy balance of inflammation in the body. Without adequate levels of vitamin D, the body may become excessively reactive to foreign invaders, leading to chronic inflammation and a higher risk of infection. Together, vitamins C and D play an important role in keeping the immune system functioning properly.

Are there any side effects associated with taking too much of these vitamins?

Although you can get vitamins C and D through your diet, sometimes it's not enough to boost your immune system. Subject: Delta-8 THC Shows Promise in Combating Myocarditis

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America, and myocarditis is one of the most common causes. Researchers are constantly looking for new ways to combat this deadly disease, and Delta-8 THC may be a promising treatment. A recent study found that Delta-8 was able to slow down heart rate and reduce inflammation in mice with myocarditis. While more research is needed, these findings suggest that Delta-8 could be a valuable tool in the fight against heart disease.

What is myocarditis and what are the symptoms?

Myocarditis is a term used to describe inflammation of the heart muscle. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including infection or injury, and it can cause a wide range of symptoms. Some of the most common signs of myocarditis include shortness of breath, chest pain, and chest tightness. Other possible symptoms include dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, nausea, and Weakness. If you experience any combination of these symptoms along with changes in your heart rate or blood pressure, it is important to seek immediate medical attention to determine whether you are suffering from myocarditis. Treatment will depend on the specific cause of your condition, but it typically involves anti-inflammatory medications and rest. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for preventing the progression of the disease and reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications.

What causes myocarditis and how is it diagnosed?

Myocarditis is a condition characterized by inflammation and swelling of the heart muscle. This can lead to a number of symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, increased heart rate, and cough. There are many possible causes of myocarditis, including infections, autoimmune disorders, metabolic or nutritional disorders, or exposure to toxins or other irritants. In order to diagnose myocarditis properly, doctors will typically perform several different tests. These may include blood tests, scans of the heart using ultrasound or MRI technology, and electrocardiograms to assess heart activity. Ultimately, the treatment for myocarditis will depend on its underlying cause and the severity of symptoms. With proper care, however, most people can recover fully from this condition.

How is myocarditis treated and what are the potential complications?

Myocarditis is a condition that occurs when the heart muscle becomes inflamed. This can be caused by a viral infection, an autoimmune reaction, or other factors. Treatment for myocarditis generally involves addressing the underlying cause, if possible. For example, if the inflammation is due to a viral infection, antiviral medications may be prescribed. Corticosteroids may also be used to reduce inflammation. In some cases, heart surgery may be necessary to repair damage to the heart muscle. Complications of myocarditis can include heart failure and arrhythmias. With prompt and appropriate treatment, however, most people with myocarditis recover fully.

What is Delta-8 THC and how does it work?

Delta-8 THC is a chemical compound that is found in the Hemp plant. Unlike other forms of THC, which produce psychoactive effects by binding to cannabinoid receptors in the brain, Delta-8 simply activates these receptors without producing any noticeable effects on cognition or perception. While the precise mechanism of action for this compound remains somewhat unclear, scientists believe that Delta-8 works by interacting with specific neuroreceptors in the brain and body, thereby triggering a series of responses that ultimately lead to changes in mood or behavior. Furthermore, research suggests thatDelta-8 may also have antioxidant properties and may be effective at reducing inflammation in certain tissues. Overall, while more research is needed to fully understand the pharmacological effects of this compound, it seems clear that Delta-8 has great potential as a therapeutic agent and may hold benefits for patients suffering from certain mood disorders or neurological conditions.

Delta-8, inflammation and relaxation

Delta-8 is a cannabinoid that is found in hemp plants. This compound has a similar structure to Delta-9 THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. However, Delta-8 is much less potent than Delta-9 and does not produce the same psychoactive effects. Instead, Delta-8 provides a more mild physical response that is associated with relaxation and relief from anxiety and pain. Research suggests that Delta-8 may also be effective in reducing inflammation. This anti-inflammatory effect may be due to the ability of Delta-8 to bind to CB2 receptors, which are found in high numbers in the immune system. As a result,Delta-8 may offer a unique combination of anti-inflammatory and relaxant effects.

What are the findings:

The results of recent studies suggest that delta-8, a type of cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, may play a role in reducing the symptoms of myocarditis. Myocarditis is a condition characterized by inflammation and damage to the heart muscle, which can lead to serious complications such as cardiac arrest if left untreated. Early research has shown that delta-8 may be able to help protect against this deterioration, as it was found to reduce levels of oxidative stress and inhibit pro-inflammatory signaling pathways. As more studies continue to explore the mechanisms underlying myocarditis, it is hoped that delta-8 will become an important tool for managing this deadly disease.

Many people turn to over the counter (OTC) drugs when they experience pain, the common ones are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, better known as NSAIDS. The problem with NSAIDS these drugs reduce an enzyme associated with pain called COX-1 and COX-2. There are a lot of hidden dangers behind prescription and OTC pain killers. Some of the most common ones consumed are Ibuprofen an d Acetaminophen.

Ibuprofen: a popular OTC pain reliever can cause stomach pain, nausea, gastric bleeding, ulcers, confusion, hypertension, increased heart attack and stroke. Also, swelling, rapid weight gain, reduced urination, which is a sign of kidney dysfunction, kidney failure, fever, sore throat, headache, rash, bruising, tingling, numbness, muscle Weakness, neck stiffness, chills, light sensitivity, and seizures.

Acetaminophen: also known as Tylenol, is classified as an NSAID, but is also unsafe. The number one cause of liver failure in the United States is caused by acetaminophen next to alcohol consumption. If combined with alcohol, the damage to the liver is increased significantly. It also depletes glutathione, an important antioxidant needed by the liver to protect and detoxify the body. Over use of this OTC drug can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal tenderness, and it can interfere with blood clotting, Weaken kidney function, and with severe over dose can cause death.

The alternative: Curcumin is a safe and effective pain reliever

Curcumin is a compound from Turmeric Root, unstandardized turmeric powder contains only two to three percent curcumin. It is important to get a standardized curcumin so that you can get a therapeutic response from consuming this herb. Not all curcumin is the same, look for a brand that blends turmeric essential oil with curcumin to enhance the absorption of the product because the product is hard to absorb.

Curcumin is one of the worlds best studied herbs, it works by reducing a COX-2 response to inflammation the same target as many prescription and OTC drugs that cause organ damage and side effects. Fortunately, Curcumin can target the same in a safe and natural way with no side effects. It can prevent a wide spectrum of inflammatory and oxidative damage, relieve chronic pain as effective and much more safely than drugs like NSAIDs.

Taking OTC or prescription pain relieving drugs are not a long term solution for pain. With the side effects associated with common pain relievers, one should only take them as a last resort and consider using a safer alternative that is as effective to relieving pain. Terry Naturally offers BCM-95 a patented curcumin that is blended with turmeric essential oils, BCM-95 has been the subject of many clinical studies demonstrating its effectiveness in relieving pain. Subject: Zinc supplementation can benefit individuals with erectiledysfunction, reveals study

Researchers recommend men having erectile dysfunction to be taking diets and supplements rich in zinc. This is because it has been discovered that the element can improve the proper functioning of the penis. Erectile dysfunction comes about when a man is unable to have and sustain an erection. It is often attributable to chronic health problems like hypertension or a consequence of stress disorders like depression. The treatment for erectile dysfunction takes two conventional approaches. One approach is to concentrate on the health issue that caused the problem. But the drawback of this approach is that it takes time and effort. The other approach is using drugs that will help to start and sustain an erection. One of such drugs is Viagra. The drawback of approaches using drugs is that these drugs can have unwanted side effects. But natural supplements such as horny goat weed and vitamin D supplements have also been found effective in treating erectile dysfunction. It has been found that people who are deficient in zinc are more prone to changes in their physiology and can easily get erectile dysfunction. It can also result in weakening of the immune system. That is why zinc is recommended for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. By the way, it is low risk and high reward form of treatment.

Key Takeaways:

  • When a man has erectile dysfunction, doctors suggest that he takes adequate amounts of zinc in the diet because it can restore the proper functioning of the penis.
  • Two treatment approaches exist for erectile dysfunction and one approach is to treat the health problem that caused the problem in the first place.
  • Pharmaceutical drugs like Viagra that can be used to treat erectile dysfunction are not very good for the body because they often cause side effects.

"It is often a secondary effect of either chronic health problems like hypertension or stress disorders such as depression."

Cannabis is routinely used for palliative care in Israel, and Israeli researchers did a study of over 2900 late-stage cancer patients treated with medical cannabis between 2015 and 2017 to evaluate how effective it was as a treatment. Most of the patients complained of sleep disturbances, very severe pain, nausea and weakness. The researchers found that 96 percent of the patients treated with the medical cannabis reported improvements in their symptoms, leading the scientists to conclude that medical cannabis is effective and safe for palliative care.

Key Takeaways:

  • Now counting and increasing, there are now about 34 countries, with an equal number of states in the US who have approved the use of cannabis for treating diseases.
  • Although at the federal level the US has not approved the use of cannabis, but as more and more studies come out, hopefully, that will be the situation.
  • Cancer is a leading cause of death in Israel and palliative care is recommended for cancer patients. The Israeli ministry of health has approved cannabis for palliative care.

Turmeric, a common spice, contains an active ingredient called curcumin. Recent findings are showing curcumin as being beneficial to patients with heart failure. Curcumin is believed to increase skeletal muscle strength, as well as increasing endurance capabilities to allow more exercise. Similar to ginger, another spice also shown to be beneficial, turmeric contains a high amount of antioxidants. Unfortunately, while curcumin is beneficial to heart failure patients, it simply is not a viable option due to the large amount of curcumin necessary to prove beneficial. That being said, turmeric, ginger, and many other high antioxidant substances are beneficial to humans, especially those with heart failure.

Key Takeaways:

  • Heart failure is life altering, because by weakening the heart and affecting its oxygen pumping ability, patients no longer have the ability to participate in activities they once enjoyed.
  • Despite being chronic and incurable, heart failure patients can, by using a change in lifestyle, decrease feelings of fatigue and enhance their mood so as to resume their lives.
  • The study that showed that curcumin from turmeric can help people with heart failure was done using mice although hopefully it can be done on humans.

"For those who appreciate the unique spiciness of turmeric, it’s serendipitous to learn there are several layers of extraordinary health benefits included with the active ingredient known as curcumin."

Korean red ginseng may have critically important for people infected by HIV. HIV, which weakens the immune system by targeting T helper cells, can be controlled by antiretrovirals, but these can grow less effective over time. Patients who consumed Korean red ginseng had slower annual loss of T helper cells, and these patients had a longer survival duration as a result. Dosage levels had no real impact, but taking Korean red ginseng for longer periods of time enhanced the benefits.

Key Takeaways:

  • Korean red ginseng, which is also called Panax ginseng, has a long history of use as a supplement for longevity.
  • HIV targets the the body's T cells, causing an ongoing drop in the supply, which ultimately weakens and destabilizes the immune system.
  • Research revealed that HIV-infected study subjects given Panax ginseng experienced a smaller loss of T helper cells.

"The herb displays anti-inflammatory activity and helps manage the immune system. It also contains saponins that exert adjuvant actions against inflammatory disease."

Subject: Supplement with magnesium if you have diabetes it helps reduceinflammation in your body

According to a study published in the Journal of Dietary Supplements, diabetic mice who were administered magnesium showed improvements in markers for anemia and inflammation. Researchers at the University of Idaban in Nigeria used alloxan to induce diabetes in mice. They then treated some of the mice with magnesium every day for two weeks. The mice treated with insulin experienced improvements in their anemic state, as well as improvements in hematologic and metabolic inflammatory markers. Symptoms of magnesium deficiency include nausea, weakness, and loss of appetite.

Key Takeaways:

  • Some researchers in the University of Ibadan, using mice, administered oral magnesium to understand the effect on anemia and diabetic mice.
  • The discovery from the study was that treatment of anemic mice with magnesium improved their state and also it relieved them of inflammatory diabetes.
  • Because people with diabetes tend to eliminate a high amount of magnesium and sugar in urine, they tend to have low levels of magnesium.

Over the past few years, a nutritional drink called Yerba mate has been rising in its popularity levels due to its known health benefits. A new health advantage that Yerba mate has been showing potential in, is its ability to help digestive issues over a long period of time. Yerba mate has been shown to help digestion through regulating insulin levels, and it even can possibly prevent obesity by helping our bodies burn fat at a higher rate.

Key Takeaways:

  • The body obtains the nutrients it needs through digestion which is the process of breaking down the food we eat through gut movement and released enzymes.
  • Sometimes, the things we eat do not get digested. This is not an evidence that your digestion is weak or faulty. They might be processed some other way.
  • When there are signs of bloating or constipation, then one has to take a careful look at his eating habits. They might need to be changed.

Subject: Study: PQQ (pyrroloquinoline quinone) may prevent and even reverseAlzheimer's

Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PPQ) is a microbe that is derived from plants, and it is showing to have neurological benefits that are associated with the prevention of Alzheimer's progression. This particular microbe is able to reduce inflammation in the brain, which can lead to several neurological conditions. It also helps patients in post-stroke recovery because it is able to reduce the area of the brain that is impacted by stroke activity. Most importantly, it helps in the prevention of Alzheimer's due to how it can neutralize levels of oxidative stress.

Key Takeaways:

  • In the elderly, Alzheimer’s symptoms are gradual loss of memory while at the same time the body is getting weak.
  • The definitive cause behind Alzheimer’s disease that was discovered at the turn of the 20th century is still unknown.
  • One of the most reliable ways of delaying Alzheimer’s disease is by eating foods that are rich in antioxidants.

"Glutamate is an important chemical in the brain, but too much of it results in excitotoxicity, a risk factor in both stroke and neurodegenerative disease. PQQ protects the brain from overstimulation by glutamate and the resulting death of brain cells."

Try These 5 Tricks To Speed Up Your Metabolism Naturally

The best way to lose weight (and keep it off!) is not to spend time and money on trendy dietary fads, or on extreme crash diets, but to try to harness the natural power of your metabolism to burn off weight. Getting enough sleep, adding interval exercises to prevent overly repetitive workout routines, eating wholesome, organic, unprocessed foods and drinking plenty of water and green tea can all help you to boost the rate at which your metabolism burns off fat.

Key Takeaways:

  • By building more muscle you will naturally increase your metabolism due to muscles burning calories faster than fat.
  • If your body is dehydrated, your body will have an average two percent decline in its metabolism.
  • Those who do not get enough sleep have a higher body mass index due to the impact it can have on your metabolism.

"Involving many chemical processes, your metabolism is much more than a mechanism you can tweak. It is required to sustain life, as these processes occur in each and every call. Helping you turn the food you eat into usable fuel, your resting metabolism is what accounts for most of the energy you burn."

Smoking marijuana found to have the same weakening effect on the blood vessels as cigarettes

The movement to legalize marijuana has been making significant progression in it’s path to success lately, but scientists are now finding that cannabis unfortunately has the same impact on the blood vessels as smoking cigarettes. Experts at the University of California in San Francisco found that when you take in marijuana, your blood vessels become impaired up to 50%, which is quite an alarming amount to say the least. The experiment was initially performed on lab rats in order to get accurate figures.

Key Takeaways:

  • University of California researchers suggest that hemp users would be well advised to use a liquid form and avoid smoking the substance.
  • Rats exposed to cigarette and marijuana second-hand smoke experienced a fifty percent impairment of their blood vessels.
  • The impairment to the rodent's blood vessels persisted for at least an hour and a half after the initial incident.

"According to a new study, marijuana smoke causes the same straining effect on blood vessels that smoke from cigarettes does."

To vaccinate or not to vaccinate… that is today’s question. You will not find a more polarizing discussion in today’s world. Not even Trump can compare to this question. Parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers, etc pick one side and one side only. Have you ever tried having a simple educated conversation on this topic? Attacks and attacks only are the product of that debate not doubt. Check out this video for a very interesting point of view. It challenges the notion that immunity can be created by microbes. Think about that for a moment, a totally new way for us to think about immunity.

Key Takeaways:

  • Microbes are needed in the human body to help program our immune systems to fight off diseases.
  • Use of hand sanitizers and certain soaps has killed microbes in the human body resulting in an immune system that is Weakened and unable to fight disease.
  • Humans are not born with any microbes but rather they come into contact with them over time.

The key to a house that will last for a long time is a strong foundation. The same goes for your health. In nutritional therapy, there are five pillars of foundational health. When these pillars are very weak, opportunities for many different degenerative conditions are introduced. Through this lens, taking charge of your overall health becomes a lot more accessible. If you ignore the foundation, that will lead to relying on pharmaceuticals or other conventional therapies.

Key Takeaways:

  • The best and most nutrient-dense diet is of no consequence if your ability to digest it is impaired.
  • While evolution has favored humans with many innate ways to raise low blood sugar, the need to lower it is a modern concern for which our bodies are unprepared.
  • Problems with the liver and gallbladder can lead to incomplete break-down of food, which sits in the intestines, causing inflammation.

"The five pillars of foundational health are digestion, blood sugar balance, mineral balance, fatty acid balance and hydration. Holding these essential components together is a whole foods diet."

Kudzu Root: Beneficial Herb or Just a Hyped Plant Invader?

Subject: Kudzu Root: Beneficial Herb or Just a Hyped Plant Invader?

Originally native to Asia, the kudzu root has had a divided perception in the United States. Used for many years in Chinese medicine, the kudzu has instead been seen as a harmful plant for many Americans. However, further research shows that the kudzu root does indeed has beneficial properties if used the right way. Whether it be fighting disease by reducing inflammation, easing an upset stomach, or even treating alcoholism, the kudzu root has been looked at a bit more favorably on the side of one's health. It is not without its drawbacks, however, as not only is the plant itself seen as a yard pest, but ingesting the root while on birth control can weaken the effects of the birth control and as it slows blood clotting, it could be a danger to those who are already on blood clotting medication. Regardless of the studies that have been shown, it is still clear that more research needs to be completed on kudzu root before a final verdict can be made on whether it is truly beneficial or just another yard pest.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Chinese cook it in many dishes for both medicinal purposes and flavor, but in the United States, it has a bit of a pesky reputation as an invader that takes over telephone poles, yards and trees.
  • Kudzu root has been given the honor of helping reduce the painful effects of a hangover, though it seems that if overused, it could be more harmful than good.
  • The Preventative Medicine Center (PMC) suggests kudzu as a remedy for an upset stomach caused by digestive issues.

Subject: Magnesium 'could prevent broken bones'

Iron and calcium, in combination with eating healthy and other vitamins and supplements, is known to help strengthen your skeletal system, helping to prevent fractures and broken bones. However, a recent survey has shown that magnesium, taken either in a pill form or in increased amounts in your diet, is equally important in the overall health of your skeletal system. So, if you worry about your bones being weak, find a way to increase your magnesium intake.

Key Takeaways:

  • As people get older, they are more prone to broken bones, but research has been done saying that offering magnesium supplements could help prevent broken bones after falls.
  • A 20 year survey has been done with the result that men with higher magnesium level were less likely to have bone fractures from falls, and at least 22 percent of these individuals had no broken bones
  • This study can only provide a correlation, but not a causation as to whether or not there is a direct relation and affect between levels and broken bones.

"Researchers say offering magnesium supplements to some older people could help prevent broken bones after falls."

Subject: Is pine tree bark the key to healthier, stronger teeth?

Not many people would associate pine tree bark with stronger teeth, but it's proving to be useful in strengthening the teeth and making fillings bind more effectively. This is because the compounds in pine tree bark are shown to strengthen the layer of teeth underneath the enamel. Tests performed by Dr. Guido Pauli are showing that this extract can strengthen dentine (the teeth material under the enamel) by up to ten times. Read this article for more details.

Key Takeaways:

  • -Pine tree bark extract is shown to alter the chemical structure of our teeth, strengthening them, and allowing our fillings to bind to them better
  • -that suggest the tree bark extracts can strengthen dentine by as much as ten times.
  • -Dr. Pauli, and his colleague Dr. Ana Bedran Russo, reached this conclusion after testing the extracts of the Chinese red pine

"Dr. Guido Pauli of the University of Illinois at Chicago says the “weak link in the chain of bonding is the interface between the resin and the dentine."

Subject: Selenium Benefits: A Unique Trace Mineral That Provides Powerful Cancer Prevention

For those who keep a keen eye on their health, the toxic chemical mercury is a growing concern. Mercury can be lethal in high concentrations. It weakens the kidneys, liver and brain and competes with other, healthy minerals at key cellular binding sites. This is concerning, given that mercury is a potent biological toxin that is present in the environment around us and can accumulate in our bodies and contaminate our cells over time. The good news? The mineral selenium can help detoxify mercury from the body.

Key Takeaways:

  • Selenium is an excellent source for reducing inflammation. It is extremely important for people with auto immune issues
  • Selenium can reduce metastasis in Skin cancer such as melanoma, which is quite common and on the rise in North America
  • Selenium can be used for detoxification of people with mercury in their systems

Eating anti-inflammatory foods may reduce symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis

Subject: Eating anti-inflammatory foods may reduce symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis

As it happens your diet may have a significant impact upon the likelihood of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) eating away at your joints as you age. 70% of white blood cells occupy the human intestinal tract - as RA is an auto-immune disease that turns the body's natural defenses against itself the link is worthy of further study. Several recent studies have made the connection between good diet (olive oil rather than butter) and RA incidence as well as severity and progression of the debilitating disease. The benefits of a good diet contrast with the current medical treatment prognosis for RA which actually weakens the immune system overall, opening the body up to any of a number of potential risk factors which eating right will strengthen the body's ability to resist.

RA is a life threatening disease which kills about 40,000 Americans annually and has a three to one preference to affect the female gender. A quarter of RA patients reported that a few specific dietary changes made noticeable impact, namely increasing blueberry and spinach consumption and reducing processed sugars.

Key Takeaways:

  • You are what you eat can also be phrased as you are as healthy as the food you eat.
  • Traditional rheumatoid arthritis treatment aims at treating the symptoms, especially maintaining and regaining mobility, but it does nothing to treat the actual illness.
  • A study showed following a Mediterranean diet rich in monounsaturated fats like olive oil improves RA symptoms.

"Recent medical research has suggested a strong link between the autoimmune illness rheumatoid arthritis and our food choices."

If these feelings are longer than expected, a consultation with a doctor is in order. You know your body best. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t try to pass it off as aging. There are many factors, medical and physical, that can cause signs of fatigue, depression, change of appetite, and Weakness. This disease causes abnormal changes and growth in body organs; it can affect many or just one body tissue. Autoimmune inflammation usually runs in families. The main cause of the disease is not known, but theories usually rotate on factors like chemical irritants, drugs, environmental irritants and virus. Autoimmune inflammation interferes with the process of bone formation as the chemicals released by body cells increase blood flow resulting in warmth or swelling of the infected part. This swelling causes irritation of the joints and the bones cartilage wears down swelling the joint lining.

With patients with autoimmune inflammation, there will be the erosion of the cartilage and the bone. It causes Weakening of the bone which is as a result of deterioration of the bone structure and low bone mass. This increases the risks of fractures as the bone becomes more fragile. It affects the bone formation by reducing muscle forces on the bone which can cause paralysis. From the activation of cells and immune system, there is a production of inflammatory cytokines which induce the bone loss. This is because it causes local cartilage degradation and thus inhibits bone formation.

Bone remodeling highly depends on the balanced action between bone-resorbing and the osteoblast, in this process, an inflammatory process that would target the joint will affect the structure of the bone. This will result in impaired function of the bone and the destruction of bone tissue. OPC generally helps to lower the blood pressure, protect the brain, stop deep vein thrombosis, prevent oxidative and stop inflammation. The seed extract reduces anything damaging the joints and helps in immune regulation. They help stop the symptoms of collagen-induced arthritis. It helps in building of the backbone. It acts as antibacterial agents, preventing inflammable infections. Inflammation can also be prevented through exercises and stopping obesity. Modification of the diet and consumption of supplements will also help avoid inflammation.

Subject: Nourish your bones with vitamins - The Detroit News

Bones are constantly being broken down and rebuilt to make it stronger. To decrease the chance of the "replacement bones" of being Weaker, there are a few vitamins that will make your bones stronger. These vitamins include Vitamin D, Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin K, Vitamin B12, and Folate. These vitamins can be taken in pill form or be found in certain foods.

Key Takeaways:

  • Unlike the static human skeletons that commonly hang in biology classrooms, your bones are continually being broken down and rebuilt.
  • Vitamin D helps you absorb calcium from food and supplements. Without vitamin D, less than 10 percent of the calcium you consume is absorbed.
  • Magnesium is a component of bone, giving it resiliency and protection against fractures; it also is essential for converting vitamin D to its active form in the body.

"Vitamin B12 and folate support bone health by helping to keep levels of homocysteine, a compound that stimulates the breakdown of bone, low. This role is further confirmed by genetic studies that reveal a link between an increased risk of osteoporosis in older adults and a common gene mutation (MTHFR C677T) that can lead to high homocysteine levels."

These tears, coupled with inflammation and temporary muscle aches and pains are commonly referred to as Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS. Typically, DOMS increases after exercise and peaks 24 to 72 hours later. Although more research is needed, proposed strategies for reducing exercise-induced inflammation, pain, soreness, and Weakness include cold or hot water immersion, cryotherapy, and compression clothing. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the most commonly used drugs by athletes of all levels to reduce exercise-mediated inflammation and soreness.

Key Takeaways:

  • Although more research is needed, proposed strategies for reducing exercise-induced inflammation, pain, soreness, and Weakness include cold or hot water immersion, cryotherapy, and compression clothing.
  • Tart cherries contain large phytochemicals known as anthocyanins, which are being studied for their anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Similar improvements in exercise recovery have been reported with pomegranate-ellagitannin extract and pomegranate juice.

"Several studies have highlighted the importance of recovery following prolonged or high-intensity exercise (like marathons, ultra-marathons, and triathlons)."

Subject: How to strengthen your bones

The vast majority of those affected are over 50, and mostly women - one in two women, and one in five men over the age of 50 will break a bone as a result of osteoporosis, according to the National Osteoporosis Society, with the wrists, hips, and spine most commonly affected. Stress exerts its adverse effects on bone density, mainly via the action of cortisol, one of the major stress hormones, says Max Tuck, author of Love Your Bones: The Essential Guide To Ending Osteoporosis And Building A Healthy Skeleton.

Key Takeaways:

  • It's easy to dismiss osteoporosis as an inevitable part of growing old - but understanding the causes, and how to manage the condition, can make a big difference.
  • Severe osteoporosis can be very problematic due to the increased risk of fractures - which can have a knock-on effect, including pain and mobility difficulties.
  • The key reason for this is menopause, when a woman's ovaries stop producing eggs, and eventually periods stop.

"It's believed that more than three million people in the UK are currently living with osteoporosis, associated with Weakened, fragile bones."

Glutathione has created huge excitement in the medical world. Many experts believe that finally they have found the secret to eternal youth. Although Glutathione is naturally produced in our liver, but it gradually depletes as we age. Hence, it should be taken from external sources. Glutathione can be taken via pills. It can also be injected into our body through our veins.

Glutathione, the Fountain of Youth

  1. Detoxifying benefits: Everyday, lots of toxins enters your body from the environment or from the food which you eat. Whenever any toxin enters your system, the cells needs to work extremely hard in order to Weaken it. As a result, the antioxidants present in your body loses its energy quickly. However, Glutathione has enough energy to charge back the antioxidants. All the antioxidants in your body depends on Glutathione for the necessary supply of energy.
  2. Skin benefits: Glutathione is also very good for your skin. It makes your skin look more fresh and clear. Apart from that, it also gets rid of wrinkles and acnes. It can also get rid of serious skin diseases like melasma. A healthy skin will make you look much younger.

Subject: Hormone therapy could help improve bone health in menopausal women

Loss in bone density and bone mass can be common for women after going through menopause. Recent studies, with a test group of over 1200 women, suggest that through menopausal hormone therapy (MHP), post-menopausal women may in fact be able to slow down the effects of osteoporosis and improve bone density.

Key Takeaways:

  • Menopausal women can improve their bone mass and bone structure by undergoing hormone therapy.
  • When used in the right context, specifically in postmenopausal women younger than 60 years old for whom the benefits outweigh risks, menopausal hormonal therapy is effective for both the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
  • Osteoporosis is a progressive condition in which bones become Weaker and are more likely to fracture or break.

"Taken for menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, previous research has already revealed the benefits of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) on bone mineral density."

Subject: Diabetes and bone loss: Strategies to manage bone health with diabetes

A recent study has indicated that bone density can be affected by diabetes in addition to the already long list of complications it causes. The high levels of glucose and possible loss of calcium in the urine can adversely affect the bones, which can lead to life-threatening bone fractures. Diet and exercise are already recommended to help deal with diabetes, but these things are also very important for maintaining bone health. A calcium supplement may also need to be added to the diet if absorption is low or loss of the mineral is high in the urine.

Key Takeaways:

  • Diabetes can increase the risk of bone loss, and the severity of diabetes can determine its impact on bone health.
  • Many studies have even shown that type 2 diabetics, even with above average bone mineral density, are still at a higher risk for bone
  • The researchers measured the women’s bone material strength and found that diabetics had Weaker bone material strength.

Subject: Science says you can worry yourself sick

A Norwegian study published in the journal BMJ Open is stating what many people have always believed: hypochondriacs can actually worry themselves sick. It was observed that these types of people tend to perform less strenuous labor and smoke more. The lack of physical activity Weakens the body, and the smoking is used as a sedative but obviously has negative effects on the body. Unfortunately, doctors telling these people not to worry doesn’t really work. Only the patient can try to change the way they think.

Key Takeaways:

  • A new study has found that it is, indeed, very possible for hypochondriacs to worry themselves to the point of ill health
  • Health anxiety is a specific type of anxiety characterised by preoccupation of having, acquiring or possibly avoiding illness,
  • Participants with higher levels of health anxiety reported less hours of hard physical activity per week

Subject: Always Tired? Burnout and Adrenal Fatigue Solutions

Do you often feel run down and fatigued during the day? So tired you could sleep? Do you crave and use salty and sweet foods as well as caffeine to get you through the day?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions it is likely that you may be suffering from Adrenal Fatigue or "Burnout." It's a very common problem which often goes unnoticed. It affects significantly more women than men. The number of people suffering has rocketed since the recession - money worries and job worries causing major stress.

What is Adrenal Fatigue?

Adrenal Fatigue is a term used to describe when the adrenal glands are exhausted. Adrenal fatigue is very commonly associated with stress levels. The adrenal glands release Cortisol in response to all stress, cortisol is your natural anti-inflammatory and reduces stress and inflammation levels when needed.

Your adrenal glands are located just above the kidneys and are the size of walnuts. They have a very important function within the body, they secrete over 50 different hormones which your body needs to survive. As well as cortisol some of the other hormones that the adrenal glands secrete include testosterone, estrogen, epinephrine, and progesterone.

People can live with this all their life and think it is just normal. This fatigue cannot simply be relieved by a good night's sleep. An estimated 80% of people at some point experience some form of adrenal fatigue and the physical symptoms associated with stress.

It is unlikely that a doctor will immediately diagnose you with adrenal fatigue, in my research I read about a female sufferer of adrenal fatigue who saw 27 different doctors before having her problem identified as adrenal fatigue! This is an extreme case.

Symptoms and negatives effects of adrenal fatigue

Adrenal fatigue can really wreck the life you live, in extreme cases, it can be so bad that you are only able to stay awake and move around for a couple of hours a day. Changes are made in your carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism, fluid and electrolyte balance is affected as well as your heart, cardiovascular system and sex drive as a result of adrenal fatigue.

The main symptoms of adrenal fatigue are:

  • You feel unusually tired a lot of the time
  • You feel run down and have no energy
  • You struggle to wake in the mornings despite what time you went to bed the night before
  • You struggle for energy in the afternoon
  • It is only really about 10am when you wake up properly despite being up for several hours
  • 'Wake up' again after around 6pm
  • Illness and stress hit you hard and you struggle to get rid of it
  • You have cravings for sweets, salty snacks and caffeine
  • Increased PMS or menopausal symptoms
  • Slight depression
  • You feel Weak a lot of the time, tired and Weak at the top of stairs
  • Low sex drive
  • Increased allergies
  • Dizziness and feeling light-headed after standing up

Subject: How to Build Strong Bones

You often heard your mother keep saying it when you were younger; also you hear your doctor say it even now "If you don't drink your milk, your bones will get Weak."

Weak bones, joint pains due to lack of calcium and other vitamin deficiencies are fast becoming common. If you are amongst those who suffers from either, it is important that besides your weekly visit to your chiropractor, you also chalk out a healthy diet that is essentially good for your bones. There are plenty of bone-building foods that contribute to stronger bones, lesser joint pains and healthier bodies.

Foods Essential for the Bones

  • Nuts- Most nuts, particularly walnuts contain omega 3 fatty acids that help in reducing bone breakdown. Brazil nuts are an excellent source of magnesium, much needed for bone formation and strengthening. Peanuts and almonds are packed with potassium and are an excellent source of protein which helps keep the bones strong.
  • Milk- Milk and most dairy products like cheese and yogurt are excellent sources of calcium. Everybody knows the role calcium plays in building strong bones, teeth, and nails. Thus at least 2 cups of milk and milk products must be consumed daily to get the body's required calcium content.
  • Seeds- Almost all seeds like flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and even sesame seeds are extremely rich in nutrients and vitamins, specifically the bone-building mineral magnesium.
  • Leafy Vegetables- Vitamin K cuts calcium loss in urine, and its deficiency is known to increase the risk of hip fractures. Leafy green vegetables contain Vitamin K, Calcium, and Magnesium which are crucial to bone development.
  • Eggs- The yolk of an egg can give you about 6 % of the Vitamin D required by your body. Whole eggs are thus considered very good for bones. They are also high in protein.
  • Soy Milk- Lactose intolerance is common amongst Americans and soy milk is thus an excellent option for all those looking to get their dose of calcium but allergic to milk. Tofu is another food rich in calcium that can be consumed for better bone mass.
  • Fish- Salmon, Sardines, and Tuna are all excellent food to consume for bone building and strengthening. These fish contain extremely high levels of vitamin D and also omega 3 fatty acids essential for health and constant bone formation.

Multivitamins and calcium supplements will provide only so much of the required vitamin content of your body; moreover, they are expensive and not always natural. Finally, they are medicines that should be avoided.

Bones are made up of live cells that break down and build up every day and to assist and speed up this process, particularly of formation, ample amount of bone-building foods must be consumed. Most foods that contain Vitamin D and K or are rich in Calcium and Magnesium are perfect for strong, healthy bones and a painless lifestyle

So now you understand the natural method to build strong bones by retaining your calcium through a diet high in vegetables content and vegetables and then some more vegetables!

Subject: What Is Adrenal Burnout?

Your adrenal glands are responsible for producing adrenaline and cortisol. These help you to manage all kinds of stressful situations as they help you to survive any difficult condition.

Over time your adrenal glands will stop working as well as they should. This will result in adrenal burnout, a condition where your glands keep you from feeling energetic and healthy.

Adrenal burnout occurs in that you will feel worn out rather quickly. You might struggle to get up in the morning regardless of how much sleep you get.

You may also develop naturally high cortisol and adrenaline levels. This causes your body to become stressed out all the time. It will be hard for you to feel relaxed in this case, thus depleting your energy levels. Over time, the levels of those compounds in your body will decline due to them wearing out and your glands being unable to produce new forms. This may cause you to use more stimulants like caffeine than what your body really needs.

After a while, your immune system will start to Weaken. This is due to your body not getting cortisol over time. Cortisol is an anti-inflammatory agent that should protect your body but you may have little to no cortisol to help. Also, an excess amount of cortisol at the start of adrenal burnout will keep your immune system working too hard to the point where it starts to become fatigued and fails to work properly.

You will need to work hard to keep adrenal burnout from being a real threat. You will have to create a consistent sleep schedule while creating a comfortable space to sleep in. meditation and deep breathing exercises may help as well. Vitamin C can also help to produce cortisol while vitamins B5 and B6 will help create new hormones.

Adrenal burnout can be a real threat to your life. Be sure to watch for how you control your life if you start to feel excess fatigue and stress.

Are You Gaining Weight For No Reason? Check Your Thyroid

Subject: Are You Gaining Weight For No Reason? Check Your Thyroid

The human body is an extremely complex system of checks and balances that's held in a very delicate state of equilibrium. It's hard to understand at times but with the patience of science, we can usually get to the bottom of whichever mysteries our bodies will present us with.

One of the mysteries that some people might find themselves faced with at some point in their lives is that of gaining weight for no reason. Diets and exercise will seem not to work. A possible culprit might be found in a small organ known as the thyroid gland. Let’s have a closer look at it and how it may be affecting your metabolism and weight.

How the Thyroid Gland Works

The thyroid is the largest gland in your endocrine system of glands and is located right in the middle of your neck just below the Adam’s apple in men. Endocrine glands refer to glands that secrete hormones in the human body. The thyroid gland produces the hormones Thyroxine and Triiodothyronine, which are referred to as the thyroid hormones. These hormones play a significant role in your energy regulation and metabolism functions by prompting almost every cell in your body to increase its activity. This is essentially what your metabolic rate is. There are three basic categories of problems that can occur in your thyroid gland, as follow:

  • Hypothyroidism or Underactivity – too little thyroid hormones produced
  • Hyperthyroidism or Overactivity – too much thyroid hormones produced
  • Growths – include benign cysts and nodules as well as cancers of the thyroid gland

The Thyroid Gland and Weight Gain

When too little thyroid hormone is being produced in a patient, their metabolic rate will slow down, meaning that the body’s cell will not be burning up calories at their optimum rate. This will lead to these unspent calories being deposited throughout the body in the form of fat. The person affected might find themselves suddenly gaining weight without any apparent changes in their lifestyle or eating habits. This is also why dieting and exercise may not have the desired effect on the patient.

The symptoms of an underactive thyroid can be very vague because the hormone acts throughout the body but should you find yourself experiencing some of these, consider testing specifically for hypothyroidism:

  • General Weakness
  • Cold intolerance
  • Heightened cholesterol levels
  • Fatigue
  • Sleepiness
  • Constipation
  • Mood swings
  • Forgetfulness
  • Heavy menses
  • Coarse, dry hair and skin
  • Weight gain
  • Changes in blood pressure
  • Depression and/or irritability
  • Muscle cramps and aches
  • Swelling in legs (edema)
  • Blurred vision
  • Hoarse voice and sore throat
  • Hair loss (on head and/or body)
