Subject: The Many Benefits of Horny Goat weed
Herbal remedies have been used to treat a variety of ailments for centuries, and horny goat weed is no exception. This plant has a long history of traditional use in Chinese herbalism, where it is known as yin yang huo. Yin yang huo was thought to "tonify life's gate" - a term used to refer to the "vital energy" in men. Epimedium, the scientific name for horny goat weed, was also used to treat a number of other conditions such as fatigue, memory loss, and pain relief.*
Horny goat weed is still used for many of the same purposes today. NOW® Horny Goat weed Extract is combined with maca, another herb known for its tonifying properties. This blend can help support libido and vitality in both men and women.* In addition to its traditional uses, horny goat weed has also been shown to provide relief from pain associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Horny goat weed may even help to improve cognitive function in people with Alzheimer's disease.*
How Does It Work?
Horny goat weed gets its name from an unlikely source - goats! According to legend, a shepherd noticed his flock became especially frisky after eating this plant. While there isn't any scientific evidence to support this claim, horny goat weed does contain compounds that may support sexual function. Icariin is the most well-known compound in horny goat weed. This compound has been shown to improve blood flow and relax smooth muscle tissue.*
In addition to its effects on sexual function, horny goat weed may also help to relieve pain. One study showed that icariin was able to reduce inflammation and pain in rats with osteoarthritis.* Another study found that a different compound in horny goat weed, fabranolide, was able to reduce pain and stiffness in rats with rheumatoid arthritis.* The anti-inflammatory properties of horny goat weed may also be beneficial for people with Alzheimer's disease. One study showed that icariin was able to reduce inflammation and improve cognitive function in mice with Alzheimer's disease.*
If you're looking for an herbal remedy with a long history of traditional use, look no further than horny goat weed. This plant has a wide range of potential benefits including improved sexual function, increased libido, improved cognitive function, and pain relief. Horny goat weed is available in supplement form or can be consumed as a tea. However you choose to take it, horny goat weed may be just what you need to feel your best!*

Zinc supplementation can benefit individuals with erectiledysfunction, reveals study

Subject: Zinc supplementation can benefit individuals with erectiledysfunction, reveals study
Researchers recommend men having erectile dysfunction to be taking diets and supplements rich in zinc. This is because it has been discovered that the element can improve the proper functioning of the penis. Erectile dysfunction comes about when a man is unable to have and sustain an erection. It is often attributable to chronic health problems like hypertension or a consequence of stress disorders like depression. The treatment for erectile dysfunction takes two conventional approaches. One approach is to concentrate on the health issue that caused the problem. But the drawback of this approach is that it takes time and effort. The other approach is using drugs that will help to start and sustain an erection. One of such drugs is Viagra. The drawback of approaches using drugs is that these drugs can have unwanted side effects. But natural supplements such as horny goat weed and vitamin D supplements have also been found effective in treating erectile dysfunction. It has been found that people who are deficient in zinc are more prone to changes in their physiology and can easily get erectile dysfunction. It can also result in weakening of the immune system. That is why zinc is recommended for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. By the way, it is low risk and high reward form of treatment. - When a man has erectile dysfunction, doctors suggest that he takes adequate amounts of zinc in the diet because it can restore the proper functioning of the penis.
- Two treatment approaches exist for erectile dysfunction and one approach is to treat the health problem that caused the problem in the first place.
- Pharmaceutical drugs like Viagra that can be used to treat erectile dysfunction are not very good for the body because they often cause side effects.
"It is often a secondary effect of either chronic health problems like hypertension or stress disorders such as depression." Read more: https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-04-16-zinc-supplementation-can-benefit-individuals-with-erectile-dysfunction.html

Subject: How Can Cannabis Help with Autoimmune Disorders?
Autoimmune diseases affect nearly 50 million people living in the United States. These diseases can lead to either over-activation, where antibodies may attack otherwise healthy organs, or under-activation, where not enough antibodies are produced to effectively fight off diseases. Using cannabis may be an alternative means of dealing with autoimmune disorders. Cannabinoids have been shown to be able to bind to receptors within the body which appears to be a possible therapeutic key. Studies with hepatitis, psoriasis, fibromyalgia, Crohn's disease, and Multiple Sclerosis have shown cannabis to provide some relief. However, there are some risk of discomfort from side-effects that could occur with using cannabis to treat autoimmune diseases. - Autoimmune disorders, which result from a hyper-reactive or under-reactive immune system, affect 50 million Americans.
- Three well known autoimmune disorders are multiple sclerosis, Crohn's Disease and psoriasis.
- Evidence suggests that the use of cannabis has given some sufferers of psoriasis relief from the inflammatory effects of the condition.
"In cases of over-activation, the immune system produces antibodies in response to an unknown trigger that attacks the body's own tissues and organs." Read more: https://news.weedmaps.com/2019/03/how-can-cannabis-help-with-autoimmune-disorders/

Subject: Why Should You Add Seaweed To Your Diet?
Adding seaweed to your diet can help protect your system from becoming vulnerable to several ailments, while also lessening the amount of symptoms from chronic conditions that you have already been diagnosed with. Seaweed is known to promote proper thyroid functioning, helping protect your body from being diagnosed with over or under-active thyroid disease. If you are living with diabetes, the consumption of seaweed can help reduce the effects of insulin resistance and inflammation that you may experience. - In contrast with other generations about a decade ago, new technology gives the possibility for more information but that does not mean people are more aware of their surroundings.
- Today, people have more knowledge about which food are healthy for the body or not. They can easily search for the information on the Internet.
- Some foods have become very popular today because some food blogger or celebrity recommended it and people now add it to their daily diet.

Subject: Why people love CBD - the cannabis product that won't get you high
The CBD market is booming after the recent legalization of marijuana in many states. CBD is short for cannabidiol which is a compound found in cannabis and hemp plants. It is not a psychoactive- you do not get high from ingestion. It is commonly used to treat anxiety and insomnia. Further studies are being conducted to research its efficiency against arthritis and epilepsy. CBD is normally extracted into an oil or cream, but can be sold in a variety of products. - There are plenty of states now that are making the smoking of weed completely legal.
- Many old school individuals still feel that anything related to cannabis should not be legalized.
- People really do like CBD because it has the same effects as weed without getting you truly high.
"So, what exactly is CBD — and why are you able to get your hands on it even if you don't live in a state where cannabis is legal?" Read more: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/09/what-is-cbd-these-popular-cannabis-products-wont-get-you-high.html

There are a lot of people that struggle with sleeping disorders. More people than you realize are ones that cannot get a good night sleep on a regular basis. It is something that really takes a toll on their bodies and can be really bad for their physical health. Understanding how to get enough sleep in your life is crucial to long term health. These new studies are showing that CBD oil is so important and could be the best bet for these individuals. - Most typical over the counter interventions for insomnia cone with predictable side effects such as dry mouth, constipation and blurry vision.
- Over the counter solutions are meant to be short-term, which means that users run the risk of more serious complications like liver toxicity with longtime usage.
- Besides allaying the emotions that may be causing sleeplessness, like anxiety and fearfulness, CBD oil helps users get to sleep and stay asleep more easily.
"Although medical cannabis is very effective in inducing sleepiness, many people do not want smoke or ingest weed. Also, many do not enjoy the psychoactive effects of the cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)." Subject: Science confirms the anti-inflammatory effects of a compound found in dandelions
Science confirms the anti-inflammatory effects of a compound found in dandelions Inflammation is a natural response that the body exhibits in order to heal the body from pathogens that are present within our system. Dandelion extract contains an important acid that has the ability to activate an important vascular event that triggered the decrease of the surrounding inflammation. The research was performed on animals experiencing high levels of inflammation, and the consumption of dandelion extract showed to directly induce the stimulation of this important vascular activity. - Researchers are looking for alternative anti-inflammatory medicines because current ones can cause gastrointestinal disorder, fluid imbalances and immunodeficiency.
- Taraxasterol has been identified as the compound in dandelion that contributes to its anti-inflammatory properties.
- Dandelion is used extensively in folk medicine to treat ailments related to liver, gallbladder, kidneys and joints.

What You Should Know About CBD Oil All marijuana strands have two components within them: THC and CBD. THC is the component that has psychoactive effects on those who consume it, but CBD carries the benefits of marijuana without those psychoactive side effects. It has been shown to work well in epileptic patients, along with those who suffer from a long list of other medical ailments. Unfortunately, the tests done to prove these claims were all pre-clinical, which means they were not tested on humans instead of mice and test tubes. - All strands of cannabis include over 100 forms of cannabinoids, many of which we have not studied as much as THC.
- There are over 23,000 scientific papers that support research showing how CBD oil helps medical conditions.
- CBD oil can also cause changes in appetite, and some other troublesome symptoms such as diarrhea.
"THC can affect the CB1 receptors, and it’s responsible for weed’s high. CBD is a little more complicated; it can affect both types of receptors, but often in indirect ways. The exact mechanisms aren’t fully understood." Read more: https://vitals.lifehacker.com/what-you-should-know-about-cbd-oil-1825430458

Subject: CBD Oil Is Basically A Superfood Now
CBD oil is not your parents marijuana. Unlike the "weed" known to many of yesterday, the oil extracted does not have the euphoric "high" composition of its counterpart, THC, in fact in researching it has been found to assist with many medical problems such as: sleep disorders, inflammation, pain and anxiety. Many are adding this, now called "super food" to coffee, food, cocktails and smoothies in hopes to find ways of promoting better health. If not technically illegal, then wake up to some in your coffee and enjoy its effects, naturally. - CBD, cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring oil that helps with pain relief, sleep, inflammation, anxiety and among other health issues.
- New age, superfood concerned people enjoy taking CBD as an oil in their food or in capsule form about three to four times a day.
- This CBD oil is new, not illegal, and is becoming popular to eat for health concerns.
"Unlike THC, CBD does not have a psychoactive effect (meaning it won't make you giggle uncontrollably and contemplate the unknown for two hours)." A researcher at Stephen F. Austin State University has found a new link between giant salvinia, a pest in Texas waterways, and a reduction in lung and pancreatic cancer. There are no details on what exactly in the plant is causing this decrease but the numbers are clear and hope is out there. This is part of a vanguard of disease and immunological studies to find cures from common plants and this looks to be promising - This plant is a weed in Texas wetlands but may be the cute we're looking for
- It has show positive findings to reducing tumor growth in lab findings.
- The best links are to pancreatic and lung cancer but no mention of other cancers.

Subject: Dandelion Root Benefits vs. Dandelion Greens Benefits
Dandelions have a bad reputation as weeds and pest plants. In fact, dandelions have been considered healing greens in many ancient cultures. Both root and leaves are edible and contain healing properties. They contain high levels of vitamin A and other nutrients and are used as diuretics and pain relievers. You can cook greens like any leafy vegetable and the root can be baked or roasted and used as a coffee drink. Dandelion is also common as a tea. - Though typically thought of as nothing more than a weed, dandelions can be eaten and used for medicine.
- Dandelion roots have various benefits, including possible cancer-fighting properties.
- Dandelion greens can protect the liver and aid in weight loss.

Subject: weeding through marijuana: Experts, advocates talk cannabidiol (CBD)
Cannabidiol is a chemical compound in marijuana that helps deal with a variety of ailments such as pain, swelling, anxiety, and depression. Unlike its more famous chemical compound THC, cannabidiol doesn't give you the sensation of feeling high. For people skeptical of the ability of marijuana to help, they can hear stories like the one shared by Sage Pierson, who started taking a mix of cannabidiol to put in her tea every morning. This drastically reduced the swelling she had as a result of her arthritis, helping her live a normal life. While doctors and government officials debate the merits of CBD, it is not officially endorsed by the FDA, so you won't be able to buy it at a pharmacy near you. - Two components of the marijuana plant are THC (which causes a "high") and CBD(the medicinal component)
- You do not need to smoke marijuana to benefit from the medicinal CBD; treatment can be as simple as adding CBD infused honey to your daily coffee
- The FDA is slow to study and approve treatments using CBD, despite the immense benefit of the drug to humans and pets
"Whenever a medicated herb can provide relief to a medical condition or illness it should not only be allowed, it should be encouraged before taking (Food and Drug Administration)-approved drugs with their long list of toxic side effects." Subject: Pot for Pets?
If you’re contemplating weed to alleviate arthritis or anxiety in your pet, be sure you educate yourself on the different types. It isn’t uncommon for the family dog to get into a batch of pot brownies and become very ill. This is because cannabis for pets is made only from hemp and contains only CBD, not THC. THC can cause adverse symptoms including nausea, pain, and vomiting. Canna-Biscuit is a CBD treat made especially for pets and has been reported to help older animals with age-related issues such as anxiety due to hearing loss. - Although there is not accurate research, experience from pet owners shows it has a positive effect on pets
- In states such as Oregon pets are not allowed to be prescribed CBD
- CBD is known by pet owners as being good for anxiety as well as living with cancer or bad limbs.

Subject: Cross Your Fingers—weed Might Lower Blood Pressure
The effects of CBD (Cannabidiol) are proving to be effective in lowering blood pressure in early testing. CBD is one of the main active chemicals in marijuana, but the effect in this case is not to get high, but to get calm. A company called PotBotics is using the measurement of EEGs to potentially come to a finding that it truly does reduce blood pressure. The magazine Popular Science published some recent results that in initial dosing, blood pressure DID come down. - The FDA hates that individuals are self medicating with CBD sprays which are legal.
- They are many different laws in regards to weed which are inconsistent.
- According to O'Sullivan research CBD helps blood vessels relax and dilate.
"While the familiar high most people use weed for comes from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), most researchers agree that CBD provides weed’s mellowing effect. It doesn’t intoxicate users, but it does calm them down." Many people believe that hemp and marijuana are the same substance, but they are more like cousins than brother and sister. This is important to note since the uses of hemp are many and the effects on our environment and economy could be great. In the attached article, the author provides an overview of the historical and current uses of the hemp plant, describes the misunderstanding of its properties and details the legal and political obstacles its use has met. The author recommends that US farmers and manufacturers continue to work toward removal of growing restrictions and increased use of hemp in industrial and commercial applications. - Although hemp and weed are from the same cannabis species, hemp actually contains less than 1% of THC.
- Hemp has many environmental benefits and its products can compete with the plastic industry.
- If we educate our legislators on the benefits of hemp, we have the potential to save the Earth.

Subject: CBD Could Treat These Inflammatory Bowel Diseases
Bowel problems affect many of us. They are unpleasant at best and painful and embarrassing at worst. There are many medications for them but not everyone can handle them. Many medications have side effects which some people can't handle. Another option is this chemical which can be found in medical marijuana products. It helps with some bowel issues. It is not the same as THC which is what people get with recreational marijuana. It does not affect the body the same way. - Inflammatory bowel diseases, like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, affect close to twenty million US citizens, with thousands of new diagnosis annually.
- These diseases are chronic, largely incurable, and decrease the quality of life for their sufferers.
- Because CBD oil has notable anti-inflammatory affects, its use could prove beneficial to many bowel disease sufferers.

About half of Detroit's citizens are registered for cannabis use ( nearly a quarter of a million). This warrants a large cannabis industry. Nonetheless, about 167 are going to close and only 5 are operating legally, due to changes in regulation as a consequence of interference by the state of Michigan. The changes include pot-free zones which are required for the establishment of cannabis and zoning permissions. This does not include the almost 300 dispensaries operating illegally. - 167 Marijuana Vendors shut down in Detroit on Monday, June 12th.

She recommends mixing CBD with turmeric. Other good mixing items include coconut oil, raw honey, and ginger root. - CBD oil can be combined with a number of natural foods to treat chronic pain and inflammation.
- CBD oil is legally available in Britain but in the US it can only be purchased in states where medical marijuana is offered.

Subject: Science Says: No, You Can’t Overdose On weed
A website devoted to alternative lifestyles has an opinion piece about marijuana. The writer contends that it is scientifically impossible to overdose on marijuana. The writer states that the body has many substances similar to those found in marijuana. When a person takes in this product the body adjusts. The writer states the brain performs in similar fashion. She cites an author and a doctor. She claims there have been only three cases of death from marijuana overdose, but the causes have not been definitely attributed to marijuana use. - Science states that it is physically impossible to overdose on weed.
- Weed is safe according to medical professionals. The only deaths associated with it were linked to heart conditions.
- Some of the chemicals in weed are already naturally produced by your body.

Subject: Health Ranger awarded U.S. patent for breakthrough anti-radiation formula that eliminates Cesium-137 from your body
A patent has just been awarded for a formula called "Cesium Eliminator". The purpose of the formula is to eliminate radioactive cesium isotopes from the digestive tract in the event that contaminated water or food has been eaten, possibly as the result of a nuclear accident, terrorism or other catastrophic nuclear event.
The developer of the formula promises to donate the manufacturing and licensing rights to governments, anywhere in the world, that might want to use it. One of the ingredients of the formula is seaweed, and the developer has a large stockpile of raw materials used to make the product. He plans to donate the product for free to victims of nuclear incidents that might happen in the continental U.S.
The developer claims that this formula will remove 95% of cesium-137 from the digestive tract. This is to see that the cesium doesn't get absorbed into the bloodstream and thereafter deposited throughout the body. Radiation from cesium-137 when exposed to the human body can lead to an increased risk of cancer.
The formula is only to be used in cases of emergency; it's not a nutritional supplement. Subject: Fake weed: Why does government marijuana look so weird?
The government, yet again, is trying to control/discourage research and development of products related to marijuana. Outlined here is how the only products available for research studies are outdated, ineffective, and poor quality marijuana plants. Most plants that are used are grown in outdated environments and conditions. In states where the plant is legal, it can't be used for research purposes. The product must be the sub-standard, government issued plants. People who could benefit from this research, should pay attention to, and follow-up on this report. - The only legal way to possess marijuana is if you are doing research through federal grants.
- The University of Mississippi is the only federally legal cultivator of marijuana.
- Commercial THC levels outdo the research THC levels making it hard to research.

Subject: 13 Ways Marijuana Impacts Males And Females Differently
As legalization becomes more widespread in the United States, our understanding of the complexity of the effect of cannabinoid use is improving. A British pharmacology journal published a study in 2010 that examined sex related differences among marijuana users. For example, men tended to use more frequently, more heavily, and experience more often the binge food craving effect of weed. Women it seems may feel many of the physical effects more acutely then men. Genetics and hormones play a role in our health and behavior, and it appears they impact the effects of marijuana as well. - The recreational use of marijuana is becoming more accepted socially and legally.
- Marijuana may affect people differently depending on what their gender is.
- The medical benefits of marijuana are real and it may someday replace opioids for the treatment of chronic pain.
"Regardless of how you feel about its use as a recreational substance, evidence is strong that marijuana has significant medical benefits for a wide array of conditions." The DEA has reiterated that Hemp CBD is illegal. It does not matter what the sellers of CBD oil tell you, it is illegal. The DEA believes it is illegal in all fifty states. The authority that the DEA has over drugs comes from the Controlled Substances Act. This issue is important to many people. Key Takeaways: - The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has issued a new clarification about the coding of marijuana extracts that rebuts the claims by sellers of “hemp-derived CBD oil” that their product is “legal in all 50 states.”
- According to the scientific literature, cannabinoids are not found in the parts of the cannabis plant that are excluded from the CSA definition of marijuana,
- “when Congress excluded from the definition of marijuana ‘mature stalks of such plant, fiber . . . , [and] oil or cake made from the seeds,’ it also made an exception to the exception,

Subject: Do you fancy nettle bubble and squeak?
Due to nitrogen released from diesel vehicles, nettles are growing like crazy on the countryside. This is bad, because they are overrunning the native flora and causing problems. But there may be some benefit to them. You can bubble and squeak them. Another weed that is overrunning the countryside is hogweed. This is a weed that is very similar to nettles. They both are growing in abundance due to the nitrogen that is being released. - While it would appear to be an entirely negative observation that nettles are overtaking the countryside, in part due to diesel engines, one chef suggests otherwise.
- One chef suggests that nutritious nettles can be gathered from the countryside and put to culinary use.
- For example, Bubble and squeak, a British tradition, for incorporating leftovers, can be tailored to use the nettles.
"The charity Plantlife told us that the countryside is becoming overrun by weeds like nettles and hogweed because of nitrogen compounds emitted by diesel engines." CDB is a cannabis compound that does not contain any THC, making some believe it is good. There have been some confusing reports recently in the British media about a compound in cannabis called CBD and how it has been reclassified as medicine. There are many facts and myths about it, but most importantly it is not weed, and has many uses. Key Takeaways: - There have been some confusing reports recently in the British media about a compound in cannabis called CBD and how it has been reclassified as medicine.
- CBD, otherwise known as Cannabidiol, is one of over 100 compounds in the cannabis plant called Cannabinoids. The most abundant is THC, the bit that gets people high, after that comes CBD.
- Because CBD doesn’t create a high, it’s been labelled ‘the good’ cannabinoid and THC the ‘bad’. But in countries where medical cannabis is legal, THC can be prescribed for cancer patients going through chemo as it eases nausea and improves appetite.
"In the UK it has been possible to buy CBD as a nutritional supplement. But last October, the Medical Healthcare Regulatory Agency decided to recognise CBD’s therapeutic benefits and reclassify it as medicine." Subject: Is CBD Crystalline the Most Effective Cannabis Medicine?
Information regarding the use of medicinal marijuana has been in high demand over the past few years. This article discusses the positive impacts and benefits of CBD. There are several conditions that cannabinoids have been shown to benefit. Check out the article for those conditions and the progress researchers have been making Key Takeaways: - Sanjay Gupta's 2013 documentary “weed” was one of the first mainstream attempts at exposing a suspicious audience to the seemingly miraculous effects of cannabis-derived CBD.
- Gupta’s coverage of four-year-old Charlotte Figi stole the hearts of people worldwide. It caused parents of children suffering from epileptic seizures to wonder if CBD was the answer.
- With a purity of 99%, CBD Crystalline is a perfect treatment option for patients nervous about the “high” related with cannabis therapy.
"CBD provides no psychoactive effects when ingested, but being that it is derived from cannabis, the potential life-saving compound is still considered a Schedule 1 substance with “no medicinal value.” This obstacle blocks many professional research facilities from conducting experiments with CBD to truly put its healing abilities to the test, at least in the United States." Hear a lot about marijuana in the news? Not sure of its purpose? Well a new study aims to anwser that. A new study is about to begin that would compare weeds affect as a painkiller, in the place of something stronger like opiods. More will be known as study moves ahead. Key Takeaways: - Physicians have commented for more than a century on the potential for cannabis to substitute for opioid drugs, and several recent studies seem to bolster this hypothesis.
- Researchers examining public-health records have found evidence that painkiller prescriptions, opioid abuse, and overdose deaths has declined in medical marijuana states.
- Because a plant that exists and reproduces in nature can’t be patented, cannabis offers few opportunities for patents (and thus profits), which makes it look like a loser to most companies.

Do you ever really stop to think about what goes in your food and what you're putting in your body? Chances are that you probably don't, although there's a small minority of Americans that seems to. "America is about to realize just how poisoned conventional food really is ... Lab testing for glyphosate about to go 'viral'" talks about what's wrong with the food the average American eats, and how science has found a means to prove this. Key Takeaways: - Our grandparentss food wasn't doused with chemical insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and other forms of pesticide that cause cancer, depression, central nervous system disorders, anxiety and dementia. Today, most grains and sugarcane get sprayed with disturbing amounts of glyphosate herbicide.
- Good news! Anresco Laboratories in San Francisco just launched their own unique detection system for final food products that reveals even low levels of glyphosate residue, and they're testing soil samples from all around the world! Want food transparency? You got it.
- First, buy certified organic food, grow your own food without chemicals, or buy from local farmers' markets and ask lots of questions of them. Second, look into buying a high quality water filtration system for your home. It's much cheaper in the long run than buying bottled water.
"There is no safe level that can be consumed, even though it's regularly found in American food and water." Reference: //www.naturalnews.com/055968_weed_killer_Roundup_glyphosate_testing.html

Must Read Facts About Your Thyroid Hormone and Iodine

Subject: Must Read Facts About Your Thyroid Hormone and Iodine
The thyroid is that butterfly-shaped gland found in front of the neck area, only a little lower than the Adam's apple. It's the organ responsible for your body's metabolism, the process related to how you burn up calories. The thyroid gland makes use of iodine to produce thyroid hormone. That's the chemical substance released into the bloodstream to perform the metabolic functions of the thyroid. With inadequate thyroid hormones, your body produces less energy, slowing down metabolism. Without iodine, the thyroid is unable to produce thyroid hormones. Hypothyroidism Sometimes, the thyroid slows down, causing a common disease, we all know as hypothyroidism. It's simply the case when an insufficient amount of thyroid hormones is manufactured by the thyroid gland. It is usually diagnosed through blood tests that check hormone levels. Signs of Hypothyroidism If you have a slow thyroid or underactive thyroid disease (another name of Hypothyroidism), you may observe one of the following signs. However, know that these symptoms may mimic other health problems which makes it more difficult to diagnose. - Irregular menstrual period
- Constipation
- Anxiety; depression
- Having dry skin, dry hair and hair loss
- Fatigue
- Being sensitive to cold temperature
- Slow heart rate
- Having a swollen thyroid gland (goiter)
- Having weight problems (either quickly gain weight or having difficulty in losing weight)
- Suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome (pain, tingling and numb sensations in the hand)
How to Avoid Hypothyroidism One of the causes of the thyroid to slow down is having too little iodine in your diet. Remember, iodine is the required component to produce thyroid hormones. And our body doesn't have iodine. Thus, it should come from an external source, that is, through the foods we eat. You need to boost up iodine in your diet. Use only iodized salt when seasoning food. As much as possible, also eat shellfish, dairy products, eggs, saltwater fishes, seaweeds and other saltwater edible food.

Subject: What Are Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) And What Herbs Contain Them?
Glycosaminoglycans refers to a linear unbranched polysacharide chain molecule composed of disaccharides repeats with a high negative charge due to the presence of Uronic acid components and sulfate esters with some hydoxyl (OH) groups as part of its structural components. They have varying molecular size and sulfation depending on the tissue they are located on and their state. They function to attract cations and maintain the hydration of the extracellular membrane (E.C.M). Glycoaminoglycans are classified into different groups based on different categories which include; glycosidic linkages in their structure, type of the sugar moiety, sulphate groups numbers and the location of the sulfate groups. Based on this various classification categories six major groups of GAGs exists, namely; heparin, hyaluronan, dermatan sulfate, heparin sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, and keratan sulfate. GAGs have a high solvation degree and and are as well highly viscous. This is beneficial to the body in that it helps to cushion and lubricate various connective tissues and body joints respectively. It therefore protects an individual from joint pains due to poor lubrication of the joints causing the bone to slide over each other. They also form the building blocks of proteoglycans which are the major building blocks of the extracellular matrix. Due to this property they are vital in determining the cellular activities such as cell division because the cell division machinery has to attach itself to the extracellular matrix before the division process is initiated. Some body tissues such as the nerve cells and the muscle cells require continuous cell division to replace worn out cells for the normal functioning. This means that structural deformities in the extracellular matrix will hinder the division process to occur and is most likely to lead to some neurodegenerative complexions. Recent studies have linked GAGs to play a role in the cell biology of cancer. They have been established as the key macromolecules affecting cell properties and functions through interaction with key growth factors or by acting directly as receptor molecules. Through this it has been findings they play a vital role in the cell signaling process thus playing a role in the cancer disease progression.Heparin and heparin sulfate have been indicated through studies to have anti-tumor effects by preventing the process of angiogenesis which is the first step in cancer metastasis. Some have been associated with anti-coagulant properties. Therefore GAGs are important molecules which play a vital role in protection against various forms of cancers. GAGs aremostly obtained from animal sources. The animal sources include shark fish and ray skeletons. Plants are also sources of GAGs, however their digestion by the human system is not possible. Seaweed is one herb that is rich in GAGs. However as earlier explain the digestion of the sea weed by the animal digestive system is quite a challenge. It is therefore recommended that we eat foods rich in proteins, and carbohydrates which can be used to synthesize GAGs in the body. In summary, GAGs are heteropolymers which acts as the building blocks of the extracellular matrix in animals. The body has the ability to synthesize GAGs naturally hence nutritional supplement is required for the body to obtain key components necessary for the synthesis. links

Subject: Iodine, The Thyroid, And Radiation! What You Should Know!
What Is Potassium Iodide Good For? Potassium iodide is an inorganic chemical compound which is a non-radioactive form of iodine. This type of chemical compound is very important to the body because it is involved with the production of thyroid hormones. If iodine in the body is low, thyroid hormones cannot be produced therefore levels of these hormones remain low in the blood. The pituitary gland, in return, will continue to produce thyroid – stimulating hormone thus the thyroid gland will also continually be stimulated. Overstimulation or overwork of any part of the body will cause enlargement thus goiter or enlargement of the thyroid gland occurs. These hormones are also important for the regulation of the body’s metabolism and are involved with protein synthesis, as well as fat and carbohydrate metabolism.
Potassium iodide is also important when there is radiologic exposure or nuclear meltdown since radioactive iodine may be freed into the air thus contamination to human beings and surrounding materials can be highly expected. Exposure may then lead to internal contamination which can be harmful to the body cells most especially with the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland readily absorbs iodine whether in radioactive ionizing or non-ionizing form. If potassium iodide is present, it fills the receptor sites of iodine thus preventing the radioactive form of iodine to be absorbed by the body.
The iodine in the receptor sites is good for 24 hours already. The Food and Drug Administration has approved two preparations of potassium iodide which comes in the form of tablet and liquid. The tablet comes in two dosage, 130 milligrams and 65 milligram. It is also scored so that it can be easily divided for smaller doses prescribed. The liquid preparation, on the other hand, contains 65 milligram of potassium iodide per one milliliter. Experts suggest that those who are exposed to high doses of radiation can take potassium iodide immediately after a nuclear meltdown or radiation emergency.
Potassium iodide is present among common foods especially sea foods. Kelp which is a large type of seaweeds is very rich in potassium iodide. Studies show that its iodine content is about 90 to 8000 microgram per gram of kelp. To note, the recommended daily allowance of iodine is only 100 to 150 micrograms. FDA recommends specific doses after exposure to large amounts of radioactive iodine. For adults, take 130 milligrams, for breastfeeding women, 130 milligrams is also recommended, for children 3 to 18 years old must take only 65 milligram, however, for children who are 150 pounds or more, 130 milligrams of potassium iodide is suggested. Children who are 1 month of age but less than three years old are recommended to take 32 milligrams or one – half of the 65 milligram tablet. Newborns to 1 month old babies are prescribed to have only 16 mg or one – fourth of the 65 milligram tablet.
The effectiveness of potassium iodide relatively depends on the time interval between the onset of exposure and contamination with radioactive iodine and the time when potassium iodide is taken, therefore, it is highly recommended that potassium iodide is taken just prior or immediately after exposure.

Holy Basil And Your Health.
Holy Basil, technically known as Ocimum tenuiflorum, is a perennial plant which is a member of the family Lamiaceae. This kind of plant is commonly cultivated in the tropics region but can also be seen as an escape weeds. Holy Basil plant is an upright shrub with many hairy branches that can grow up to 30 to 60 centimeters in height. It has an aromatic leaves in green color that are slightly toothed. It also bears flowers which are purple in color and also has a strong scent. Holy Basil has many medicinal uses. In fact, in South Asian regions, Holy Basil is commonly utilized as an herbal tea.
Holy Basil claimed to be an effective pain treatment. Clinical studies show that this plant contains high amounts of Eugenol which mimics the actions of COX – 2 Inhibitor drugs. COX – 2 Inhibitors is a pain killer which is classified as Non – Steroidal Anti – Inflammatory Drug or NSAID. This type of drug is directly targets the enzyme Cyclooxygenase – 2 which is responsible for inflammatory response. Inflammation is associated with swelling which further cause pain. If an area is swollen, the nerve endings are compressed therefore pain is felt.
Aside from its potent pain alleviating property, Holy Basil is also useful in reducing blood sugar levels. This is the reason why it is utilized as an effective treatment for diabetes mellitus. Holy Basil also has an antioxidant effect. As we know for a fact, antioxidants are useful in eliminating harmful toxins in the body known as free radicals. Free radicals can damage cells and even tamper DNA formation during cellular division. Other benefit of Holy Basil includes its anti – stress property. Holy Basil leaves are considered to be an adaptogen or anti – stress agent which protects an individual against various stressors. Experts recommend that an individual can consume a dozen of Holy Basil leaves two times daily to prevent stress. Holy Basil leaves are thought to purify blood thus improving blood circulation and tissue oxygenation.
Aside from Eugenol, Holy Basil also contains the compound Carvacrol which has a strong antibacterial property. Carvacrol has the capacity to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria such as E. coli and Bacillus cereus. Carvacrol is also an effective digestive aid. Research reveals that Carvacrol is can alleviate gastric upset and improve digestion of food and absorption of nutrients.
Holy Basil extracts are reported to be safe and effective in helping alleviate pain and treating other health conditions. Experts suggest that Holy Basil is not for long – term use. It must be used only for a maximum of four weeks. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers must not use this supplement to be completely safe. Holy Basil is discovered to slow blood clotting therefore it must not be used within two weeks before and after any type of surgery. Finally, though Holy Basil extracts are relatively safe, it would still be best to consult a qualified healthcare provider and discuss with him or her your health status and history.
Get some today and reap the benefits of this wonderful herb for yourself!

Subject: What is Red Marine Algae And What Are Its Health Benefits?
Red Marine Algae And Your Health.
Red marine algae refer to a large group of seaweeds that contain phycobiliproteins, which give them their red coloration. They are simple organisms in that they do not have complex tissues in contrast with terrestrial plants. Many species of red marine algae plays an important role in the formation of coral reefs as they secrete calcium carbonate as well as provide nutrition for other marine species. Like plants, they are capable of making their own food by way of photosynthesis. And like most other seaweeds, they are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals, and other healthy organic compounds.
Scientific Classification
Rhodophyta is the taxonomic classification of all red marine algae. It is oftentimes considered a part of the plant kingdom, but more recent definitions of plant suggest red algae belong to a kingdom of their own. Rhodophyta is one of the largest groups of algae, second only to green algae. It consists of up to 6000 aquatic species that are widely distributed in the tropical, temperate, and even frigid zones. These species usually take up residence along the coastal regions and significantly contribute to the distribution, abundance, and ecology of organisms found in the extended perimeter of each continent.
Historical Uses
Seaweeds have become a part of the staple diet of many communities throughout history, and red marine algae are one of the best sources of human nutrition among all seaweeds. For thousands of years, different species of red algae have enjoyed significant presence in cuisines from all over the world. It is often consumed uncooked or added to salads. It is also an important ingredient in soups and stews. Ocean farmers have learned different techniques of domesticating crops of algae, and cultivation has been the solution to the growing demand of red marine algae in the past few decades.
Industrial Applications
Red marine algae have steadily grown in economic value since the 20th century. In addition to their historical culinary uses, their application now extends to medical science. Several organic compounds have been isolated from different species of red marine algae are now in wide use in the food and drug industries. For example, gelatinous substances are derived from agarophytes, any species of seaweeds that belong to rhodophyta. These substances are used in the production of beer, food preserves, ice cream as well as papers, fabrics, lubricants, and other personal care products.
Medicinal Value
Red marine algae have a special place in antiviral research. Many species are now identified to contain organic compounds that are of medicinal value against several viruses. Decades-long studies have come to a conclusion that sulfated polysaccharides derived from red marine algae have an inhibitory effect on replication of herpes simplex virus (HSV). There is good evidence that one class of sulfated polysaccharides called carrageenan offer some protection against transmission of herpes. Furthermore, recent studies have revealed that sulfated polysaccharides are potent inhibitors of HIV-1 in cell culture.
Red marine algae is an excellent source of nutrients found in the sea. Get some red marine algae and reap the benefits of this nutrient rich food today!

Subject: What is The Herb Yellow Dock Root And How Does It Detox
What is The Herb Yellow Dock Root Good for?
Yellow dock root is a health tonic best known for its detox properties. It has enjoyed a long association with folk medicine since the ancient times, especially in the treatment of what were believed to be diseases of the blood. Today it is often linked to the removal of heavy metals and other toxins from ingested foods, and thus has been attributed with digestive and hepatoprotective properties.
Rumex crispus is known by many names in the vernacular throughout the ages, but the most common is yellow dock, which to this day remains popular. It is a shrubby plant species native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is a flowering plant that grows up to 1 meter in height, with a circular arrangement of basal leaves similar to that of dandelion. It thrives well in the wild, preferring open spaces, even roadsides, rail beds, and car parks, as long as the soil has enough moisture. Its seeds are on its stems and quite exposed, making it easier to propagate. It is believed to be widespread in all continents, with the obvious exception of Antarctica, and considered an invasive weed in many countries.
The part of the plant used in herbal preparations is, as its name suggests, its root. Yellow dock root are dried and made into tea. Supplements in the form of capsules and tablets contain extracts of the dried root. Its active ingredients are phytochemicals with laxative properties, such as anthraquinones. It contains chrysophanic acid, which has been studied for its positive effects on skin disorders. In addition, it is a good source of vitamin C and iron, the reason why it is good for the blood.
Cleanses the Body of Toxins
Yellow dock root is thought to bind with toxins found in food and promote its excretion through the feces. It is particularly good for the organs close to the digestive tract, such as the pancreas, the liver, and the gall bladder as it promotes the production of enzymes needed for the breakdown of foods and protects the liver from the harmful effects of hepatitis. Also, it is believed to cleanse the lymph nodes. As it contains high levels of iron, intake of yellow dock root has been tied to healthier red blood cells.
Alleviates Skin Inflammation
Chrysophanic acid occurs naturally in several plants, including yellow dock root. This organic compound has been observed to allay the symptoms of many medical conditions of the skin that are inflammatory in nature, such as contact dermatitis, atopic eczema, and acne rosacea. Folk medicine practitioners believe that eating or drinking yellow dock root reduces the severity of herpes outbreaks.
Promotes Bowel Movement
Yellow dock root is rich in anthraquinones, notably emodin. In medicinal niches, these compounds are valued for their purgative properties. In the old days, herbal preparations containing yellow dock were heavily utilized in the treatment of different digestive problems such as indigestion and diarrhea. It is particularly helpful for constipation as it stimulates the colon and promotes bowel movement.

Subject: What is Dandelion Tea Good for?
Dandelion Root
Dandelion tea must be best known as a detoxifying beverage that has been associated with improving liver and kidney functions. In the old days the plant is often considered a pesky weed, but today health organizations, such as the European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy, have endorsed its efficacy in relieving liver problems among others. The tea produces a pronounced bitter taste and is often sweetened, but it also packs large quantities of micronutrients.
Peoples from the Old World are no stranger to dandelion tea, but the plant species are native to both Europe and North America. What we refer to as dandelion comprises a large group of flowering plants. The two most notable species are Taraxacum officinale and Taraxacum erythrospermum, both of which are used to make dandelion tea. The fact that it can be found right in your yard is the reason why health magazines regard this herb as one of the readily available nutritional powerhouses.
Maintains Intake of Nutrients during Weight Loss
Dandelion tea has been noted to contain significant levels of vitamins and minerals, the reason why it is popular among individuals who are following a weight-loss program. Many people seem to overlook the fact that depriving themselves of important food sources, such as whole grains, compromises their daily intake of dietary nutrients. Chronic dieting is particularly dangerous in the long run even for those who used to be physically healthy. Dandelion tea offers a solution to people on a diet by meeting the RDA for vitamin A and K and providing up to 30 per cent of vitamin C and vitamin B7. It is also rich in minerals like calcium, potassium, and iron.
Promotes Excretion of Toxins through Diuresis
Not surprisingly, dandelions have been used to aid a long list of symptoms and diseases, and it has been reputed as a natural diuretic for centuries. Due to its worldwide distribution, it is one of the few herbs that have earned visible presence in traditional medicine of the East and the West, and its use has always had something to do with the proper functioning of the liver and the kidneys. The bioflavonoids found in dandelion remove toxins from the liver, like ethanol metabolites, and facilitate their excretion through the urine.
Facilitates Absorption of Bioactive Compounds
Health professionals often point to the nutritional content of dandelion tea and other products from the herb. Most species of dandelions have been documented to be completely edible, and the quantities of bioactive compounds present in them have been compared with vegetables like spinach and broccoli. Consumptions of dandelions have even been considered tantamount to intake of dietary supplements as they are rich in phytochemicals that display the activities of many known polyphenolic substances found in black and green teas and other foods rich in antioxidants. While the plant contains high quantities of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber, the tea has been tied to more effective absorption of these bioactive compounds, making it an ideal beverage to match with any food source.

Subject: Phytoestrogen, fish oil, and other Supplements may help With estrogen related diseases
Many women fear breast cancer, as it seems out of control. In actuality, a woman’s diet is something within her control and it can be the most powerful force in significantly deterring breast cancer. One out of every eight American women experience breast cancer. Foods, natural herbs, and exercise can significantly reduce your risk, with just one change cutting your risk in half. The more estrogen a woman is exposed to over her lifetime, the higher her risk of breast cancer. There are both good and bad estrogens. Daily, we are bombarded with bad estrogens through cosmetics, plastics, metals, and toxins in the air. Good estrogens come from foods, especially plants.
Choosing organic foods and starting young women on organic dairy in particular is a great way to make preventative dietary changes. A diet full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and plant compounds supports the detoxification pathways and protects cells. This alone is a giant step on the path of disease prevention. Following are ten foods that can inspire you to make small, tasty changes to your diet and help you to feel in control of your breast cancer prevention.
Flaxseeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids and plant lignans and are the most powerful food you can eat to fight breast cancer. Try adding 2 to 3 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds to a blueberry-yogurt smoothie, or sprinkling on cereal, oatmeal, or wholesome muffins.
Turmeric, which is extremely popular in Indian cuisine, is an anti-inflammatory that’s 300 times more potent than vitamins E and C. This food can help to cut your risk of breast cancer in half. It also stimulates liver enzymes, which helps to clear the body of bad estrogen toxins. Adding ¼ teaspoon of turmeric to a curried chicken stir-fry or plain basmati rice is a great way to get more in your diet.
Women who eat diets high in fiber have a 54% lower risk of breast cancer. Insoluble fiber binds to estrogen in the colon, eliminating it from the body. Fiber also slows the absorption of carbohydrates and bad fats. Try starting your day with oatmeal that is topped with fresh blueberries and slivered almonds. A low-fat bran muffin and apple is also a great way to get more fiber in your diet.
Vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, and Brussels sprouts put up a good fight against breast cancer. Their indole-3-carbinols block estrogen receptors, which slows bad estrogen from causing breast cells to grow and divide faster, which increases the risk of breast cancer. Cruciferous veggies also contain a compound called DIM, which helps detoxify estrogen in the body. Women who eat the most cruciferous vegetables have a 40 percent lower risk of breast cancer than those who eat few if any. Try steaming veggies, sprinkling them with sea salt, and drizzling with olive oil.
Fish, which is known for its high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids, is also a great way to prevent breast cancer. However, vegetarians who prefer vegetable sources can stick with flaxseeds and occasionally eating wild salmon is recommended. To get more, bake a 4-ounce salmon fillet and serve it over a bed of quinoa and steamed broccoli drizzled with olive oil. If you’re not into the fishy taste, try purified fish oil supplements.
Other foods that can help to prevent breast cancer include green tea, soy, olive oil, mushrooms, and seaweeds. Green tea inhibits the growth of cancers and also help decrease the body’s estrogen production. An adequate amount of soy in your diet can reduce chances of breast cancer by 30 to 50 percent, as it contains genistein, a plant estrogen that has been proven to stop tumor growth, prevent metastasis, and shut off blood flow to growing tumors. Olive oil has the ability to suppress a gene in our DNA that is involved in tumor growth, while mushrooms boost the immune system. Seaweeds is rich in iodine, which is toxic to breast cancer cells.
Eating a healthy diet low in red meat and high in fruits and vegetables along with vitamin supplements can go a long way in the fight against cancer. Look to your local or internet vitamin store for additional information on vitamin supplements.

Subject: Pleurisy Root
The pleurisy plant is a perennial herb that has several stems. It can be found growing three feet high, with branches at the top. The leaves are dark green on the upper surface and pale green on the underside. The flowers are richly colored orange and are found blooming from June through September. This plant is a member of the milkweed family. Monarchs, swallowtails, and other butterflies are especially attracted to the pleurisy plant when it is in flower. The plant prefers open, dry fields. It is often growing in abundance in the southern United States. Similar to other milkweeds, pleurisy root produces pods that reveal rows of silky reeds that drift in the wind in autumn. However, unlike most milkweeds, this species does not produce a milky sap.
This plant is native to North America. It was long used by Indians and pioneers. Often, it was spread onto sores after being powdered and mixed into a paste. Indians of several regions brewed a tea from the leaves to induce vomiting in certain rituals, while settlers and Indians alike made a tea from the root to induce perspiration and expectoration in severe respiratory conditions. Pleurisy was listed in the U.S. Pharmacopeia in the 19th century.
Pleurisy root developed its name because of its use for treating lung conditions. The name comes from the Greek root word pleura, which means “lung membranes.” This name implies that this herb is extremely valuable for treating pleurisy. This is because it relieves chest pain and eases breathing difficulties. Pleurisy was used by Native Americans. Then, they introduced it to the European settlers who were suffering from numerous respiratory problems.
This herb works primarily as an expectorant. Pleurisy helps to expel phlegm from bronchial and nasal passages. The herb is responsible for opening lung capillaries. This aids in the release of mucus, which thins discharge. This process helps to reduce lung congestion and improve breathing.
In addition to its uses for pulmonary problems, pleurisy root is also used as a gentle tonic. This tonic helps with stomach pain that is caused by gas, indigestion, and dysentery.
Additionally, pleurisy root is a powerful diaphoretic. It increases body temperature and opens pores to induce perspiration. It has also been used against poisoning and acute rheumatism. Unfortunately, this is not recommended for children.
The root of the pleurisy plant is used to provide alterative, anodyne, antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic, emetic, expectorant, febrifuge, nervine, mild purgative, and stimulant properties. Primarily, pleurisy is extremely beneficial in treating spasmodic asthma, bronchitis, acute dysentery, emphysema, fevers, indigestion, lung disorders, pleurisy, and pneumonia. Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with croup, contagious diseases, flu, gas, kidney problems, measles, and excessive mucus, absent perspiration, poisoning, acute rheumatism, scarlet fever, tuberculosis, and typhus.
In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen while on prescription medications. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by pleurisy, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

Hoodia For Weight Loss

Subject: Hoodia For Weight Loss
The hoodia plant is a leafless, spiny plant. It is a succulent in the milkweed family. Hoodia can be found growing in South Africa and Namibia. The plant thrives in very high temperatures, taking years to mature. Bushmen from the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa have used hoodia for centuries to help fight off hunger during long treks in the desert. This ancient band of nomadic hunter-gatherers eats bite-size chunks to stave off thirst and curb their appetites on long hunting trips in the wilderness.
In early 2004, the first supplements containing a hoodia compound were introduced in the United States. These supplements were intended to be an aid for obesity and weight loss. Hoodia contains an appetite-suppressing component that is similar in molecular structure to glucose, only stronger. This component is known as P57. It is responsible for sensing a signal to the hypothalamus which tricks the body into thinking it is no longer hungry. The P57 compound seems to increase the amount of ATP in nerve cells of the hypothalamus, which is the brain’s control center for regulating thirst, hunger, and temperature. ATP is an energy-producing molecule that is created from glucose. When ATP levels are increased in hypothalamic nerve cells, those nerve cells fire as if you had just eaten, even if you haven’t.
Some people claim that hoodia works immediately for them, within twenty to thirty minutes of taking the capsules. However, more often, people require up to two weeks of taking regular doses before they start noticing significant results. These results include a reduced interest in food, a prolonging of time after a meal before being hungry again, feeling full more quickly, and a general sense of well-being.
Studies that have been done on the effects and safety of hoodia are continuing in the United States and abroad. The prospects for the future development of this herb look very promising.
Don’t make the mistake of believing that all you have to do is take a supplement of hoodia everyday and the fat will just disappear. While some claim that has been the case for them, the majority of dieters need more help than solely diet pills. It should be remembered that the only thing the hoodia does is suppress appetite. It does not improve a bad diet or address problems of overeating. It you have a terrible diet and ten to overeat even when you are not hungry, you will not receive any benefits from hoodia. If these things describe you, you first need to tackle those issues before considering hoodia. This herb will not build muscle or burn fat. Your muscles are fat burning machines and responsible for burning fat all day long, even when you are resting. The more you have the more fat you’ll burn. Your metabolism also plays a huge role in burning fat. The only way to build muscle and speed up your metabolism is to exercise.
The stem of the hoodia plant is used to provide anorectic, aphrodisiac, and mood enhancer properties. Primarily, this herb is extremely helpful in treating diabetes, obesity, and weight loss. For more information on the many beneficial effects of hoodia, please feel free to contact a representative from your local health food store.

Subject: Gymnema Sylvestre Leaf Extract
Gymnema has been used for centuries throughout the world for medical purposes. Only recently has it gained popularity in the Western world. The herb grows naturally in Africa and India. It is traded all over the world. Generally, the leaves are the part used. However, the root seems to supply some medicinal properties as well. The plant is a vine-like woody plant that can be found growing on bushes and small tress. It is a member of the milkweed family.
Gymnema has been used by Ayurvedic physicians to treat ailments such as stomach problems, diabetes, and urinary disorders for more than two thousand years. Early physicians found that chewing some of the leaves helped an individual to lose a taste for sweets. Modern scientific research has confirmed that gymnemic acid, the active ingredient, blacks the taste of sugar and blocks sugar’s absorption by the body. It is also thought the gymnema suppresses the taste of saccharin and clycamate, which are two common artificial sweeteners. A study done in 1986 also suggests that this herb is able to significantly increase liver and pancreatic function. This ability is promising for diabetes, obesity, hypoglycemia, allergies, anemia, and osteoporosis.
This herb is used for blocking the passages that sugar is normally absorbed. This prevents calories from being absorbed and blood sugar levels are not so drastically affected. The herb is also thought to block the body’s desire for sweets. One study found a link between the taste buds and the absorption of sugar in the intestines. Because gymnemic acid, found in gymnema, has a molecular structure similar to sugar, these molecules can fill in the receptor locations on the taste buds temporarily, preventing the taste buds from being activated by the sugar eaten. The same basic thing happens in intestines, as the structure of tissue in the intestines is similar to the taste-bud structure that detects sugar. The gymenmic acid fills in the receptors in the intestines, which prevents absorption.
One of the most promising uses of gymnema may be in cases of diabetes. Research on animals has found that a reduction of blood sugar levels occurs after the consumption of gymnema extract. The herb may help to reduce the amount of insulin needed by diabetic individuals on insulin therapy. The herb is found in combinations that are often associated with controlling blood glucose levels and metabolism. Gymnema seems to be successful in some cases of diabetes. Additionally, the herb has been found to actually improve both liver and pancreatic function.
Over time, this herb has proven to be a nontoxic remedy. Gymnema is used for many conditions. Among these are diabetes, digestion, urinary tract problems, obesity, hypoglycemia, allergies, anemia, cholesterol, and hyperactivity. Gymnema may be a useful remedy in the concern over sugar and sugar-related problems, along with many other medical ailments.
In short, the leaves and roots of the gymnema plant are used to provide antiperiodic, diuretic, and stomachic properties. Primarily, this herb is extremely beneficial in dealing with diabetes, hyperactivity, and hypoglycemia. Additionally, gymnema is very helpful in treating allergies, anemia, high cholesterol, gastric disorders, indigestion, obesity, and weight conditions. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by gymnema, please feel free to contact a representative from your local health food store.

Subject: Horsetail
Horsetail has been used for healing in both Chinese and Asian cultures. During times of famine, the Romans ate horsetail shoots, while Native Americans used horsetail as a diuretic for kidney problems, cancer, and dropsy to increase blood circulation. The Hopi tribe in New Mexico mixed horsetail and cornmeal as a mush and in their bread. One of the oldest plants on the earth, horsetail is approximately two hundred million years old. It used to be a giant fernlike plant. However, there are now around twenty species of the original plant living today. These species are small in comparison to the original plant and are usually considered to be a nuisance. The species Equisetum arvense is a small perennial fern plant that is most common in North America.
The horsetail plant is a descendent of huge tree-like plants that thrived 400 million years ago during the Paleozoic era. The plant is a non-flowering weed that can be found throughout parts of Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America. This plant returns each year with hollow stems and shoots that resemble asparagus. As the plant dries, silica crystals, which form in the stems and branches, give the plant the scratching effect that made it historically useful for polishing metal.
Horsetail is believed to aid the immune system and the nervous system because of its silica content. The nerves contain almost the same amount of silica as does the albumin in the blood. The pancreas is especially rich in silica. Silica is found combined with fluorine in the enamel of the teeth. Additionally, hair needs silica to grow, and it is needed as a protection for the skin and cell walls. This herb helps in treating urinary tract problems. It contains silicic acid, which is responsible for helping with circulation of the blood. This herb is also credited with helping coagulate the blood and decreasing blood flow. An externally-applied decoction has the ability to stop bleeding of wounds and help with healing. Horsetail can also be used as a mouthwash for mouth infections. Often found in calcium combinations, horsetail is helpful in building the skeletal system and improving bone structure. The silica that is found in horsetail also helps in healing bones, keeping the arteries clean, and facilitating the absorption of calcium in the body.
This herb is known for its antibiotic properties and its contribution to the overall healing process. Horsetail is also thought to help with bleeding, urinary and prostate disorders, bed-wetting, skin problems, and lung disease. Horsetail also possesses a weak diuretic effect, which is most notably due to the equisetonin and the flavone glycosides.
In short, the entire horsetail herb is used to provide alterative, antilithic, antineoplastic, astringent, diuretic, emmenagogue, galactogogue, lithotriptic, nephritic, nutritive, and vulnerary properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are flavonoids, iodine, iron, manganese, PABA, pantothenic acid, silicon, sodium, and vitamin E. Primarily, this herb is extremely beneficial in treating arthritis, poor circulation, diabetes, glandular problems, weak hair, kidney stones, weak nails, nervousness, osteoporosis, parasites, rheumatism, and urinary problems.
Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with edema, eyestrain, gas, gout, heart problems, hemorrhage, incontinence, liver disorders, membrane irritations, neuralgia, palsy, skin disorders, tumors, and water retention. Subject: Mugwort
The mugwort plant is one of several species in the genus Artemisia. In Northern America, this plant is considered to be an invasive weed. The plant is very common and can be found growing on nitrogenous soils, like weedy uncultivated areas such as waste places and roadsides. The mugwort plant is a tall herbaceous perennial plant that grows from one to two meters tall and has a woody root. The leaves, which are between five to twenty centimeters in length, are dark green, pinnate, with dense hairs on the underside. The stem has a red-purplish tinge. The flowers are rather small with many yellow or dark red petals. This plant can be found flowering from July to September.
The mugwort plant is native to Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. Sometimes, it is referred to as the felon herb, St John’s plant, chrysanthemum weed, and wild wormwood. The plant’s root has a history of medicinal use. Mugwort was used in the ancient world as a treatment for fatigue and to guard travelers from evil sprits and wild animals. Roman soldiers are said to have placed mugwort in their sandals to keep their feet energized. One could curb fatigue by chewing mugwort leaves. Sometimes, mugwort is confused with wormwood.
Mugwort is popular in witchcraft. It is said to promote lucid dreaming and astral travel. Smoking or eating mugwort before going to sleep is supposed to make dreams much more intense. It also helps the dreamer to remember them upon waking. This herb contains wormwood oil, thujone, flavonoids, triterpenes, and coumarin derivatives. Thujone is toxic. For this reasons, expectant mothers should avoid consuming large amounts of mugwort. Due to toxicity concerns, the plant is recommended less often now.
In traditional Chinese medicine, mugwort still has a role in an aged, pulverized, and recompounded form. In this form, it is used to correct breech birth presentation. Additionally, mugwort can cause uterine contractions, so it has been used to induce abortion.
The leaves of the mugwort plant have been recommended for colic, diarrhea, constipation, stomach cramps, weak digestion, worm infestation, and persistent vomiting. This herb has also been used to stimulate the secretion of bile and gastric juices. It has also been used as a laxative, liver tonic, and sedative. Mugwort promotes circulation. Additionally, it helps with hysteria, epilepsy, convulsions in children, and menstrual problems. This herb has been used as a tonic to boost energy and strength. It has been used, combined with other ingredients, for neuroses, neurasthenia, depression, hypochondria, irritability, restlessness, insomnia, and anxiety.
In summary, the root and leaves of the mugwort plant are used to provide abortifacient and anthelminthic properties. The primary nutrients found in this herb are lipophilic flavonoids and sesquiterpene lactones. Primarily, mugwort is extremely beneficial in treating anxiety, colic, constipation, depression, diarrhea, digestion, epilepsy, hysteria, insomnia, menstrual problems, vomiting, and worms. Subject: BoneSet For Fevers
Boneset was used by Native Americans for a valuable remedy against colds, flu, and fevers. Other common names that boneset is identified by include: thoroughwort, vegetable antimony, feverwort, agueweed, Indian sage, sweating plant, eupatorium, crossword, thoroughstem, thoroughwax, and wild Isaac. In most cases, boneset has been used primarily to treat fevers. They introduced boneset to the settlers in the New World. From 1820 through 1916, boneset was listed in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia. This herb was also listed in the National Formulary from 1926 through 1950. Boneset has been used to restore strength in the stomach and spleen. It has also been used as a tonic for acute and chronic fevers. Dr. Edward E. Shook actually felt that boneset was beneficial for every kind of fever humans are subjected to. He also believed that it had never failed in overcoming influenza.
Recent research has found that boneset contains antiseptic properties that help to promote sweating. These properties also help in cases of colds and flu. Boneset has also been shown to contain antiviral properties and strengthen the immune system by enhancing the secretion of interferon. Additional studies have found that boneset is effective against minor viral and bacterial infections by stimulating white blood cells. Additionally, this herb has been used to treat indigestion and pain and may also contain some mild anti-inflammatory agents to help with conditions like arthritis.
Boneset is a perennial herb that has an erect stout and a hairy stem. It grows from two to four feet high, with branches at the top. The leaves of the boneset plant are large, opposite, united at the base, and lance-shaped. They grow anywhere between four to eight inches in length and taper into a sharp point. The edges of these leaves are finely toothed, with prominent veins. These leaves help to distinguish this plant species at first glance. The flower heads of the boneset plant are terminal and numerous, being large, and having anywhere from ten to twenty white florets. The plant possesses an aromatic odor, with an astringent and strongly bitter taste. This plant species varies considerably in size, hairiness, form of leaves, and inflorescence. It can typically be found flowering from July to September.
The entire herb is used to provide alterative, anti-inflamamtory, antiperiodic, antiviral, diaphoretic, emetic, febrifuge, purgative, nervine, and stimulant properties. The primary nutrients found in boneset include calcium, magnesium, PABA, potassium, and vitamins C and B-complex. Primarily, boneset has been shown to be extremely helpful in dealing with chills, colds, coughs, fever, flu, malaria, pain, rheumatism, typhoid fever, and yellow fever. Additionally, this herb is beneficial in treating bronchitis, catarrh, jaundice, liver disorders, measles, mumps, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, scarlet fever, sore throat, and worms. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by boneset, please contact a representative from your local health food store.
Although there is no recent clinical evidence that guides the dosage of boneset, traditional use of the herb suggests that a dose be about two grams of leaves and flowers. The internal use of this herb should be tempered by the occurrence of hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids in this plant. For those women who are pregnant or lactating, this herb should not be used, as there have been documented adverse effects on those women who are pregnant and/or lactating.
Boneset is available in capsule, tablet, and liquid extract forms at your local or internet health food store. Look for name brands to ensure quality and purity of the product you purchase.

Subject: Nutritious Amaranth
Amaranth is an herb full of vitamins. It was traditionally used by Native Americans in both Central and North America as a survival food. This herb has been cultivated for thousands of years in many different cultures due to the fact that it grows well in most climates and uses a very small amount of water. Amaranth contains a huge amount of protein and a lot more calcium than milk provides. It also contains the amino acid l-lysine, which is not often found in plants. Amaranth seeds were used by the Aztecs in their pagan ceremonies. Additionally, mature seeds of the amaranth plant were eaten raw, mixed with cornmeal, or added to soups. The leaves, which taste similar to spinach, can also be eaten.
Often, amaranth is used for gastroenteritis or the stomach flu. It helps to lessen the irritability of the tissues. A strong decoction of amaranth can be used to remove worms and other parasites from the digestive tract. Applying amaranth topically can help to reduce tissue swelling. The herb can be used with bandages for medical treatment. Additionally, it can help stop excess bleeding which is often caused by sore gums, nosebleeds, and heavy menses. Amaranth is highly digestible and is recommended for infant formulas.
Amaranth is a traditional food plant in Africa with the potential to improve nutrition greatly. There are several species of amaranth grown in Asia and the Americas for grain. Ancient grains still used to this day include three species: Amaranthus caudatus, Maranthus cruentus, and Amaranthus hypochondriacus. Even though amaranth was grown on a small scale in parts of Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, India, and Nepal, there is a huge potential for future cultivation in the U.S. and tropical countries. Because of this, this herb is often referred to as “the crop of the future.” Because of a weedy life history, amaranth grains grow very rapidly, with their seedheads weighing up to 1 kilogram and containing a half-million seeds. Amaranthus species have a 30% higher protein value than rice, wheat flour, oats, rye and other cereals.
Amaranth was revived in the 1970s because of it is very palatable, easy to cook, and a protein that is well suited to human nutritional needs. This herb was recovered in Mexico from wild varieties, now being commercially cultivated. A popular snack sold in Mexico City, this herb is often mixed with chocolate or puffed rice. Its use has recently spread to Europe and parts of North America. Amaranth is a pseudo grain because it has a very similar flavor and cooking ability to grains. Along with protein, amaranth provides a great source of dietary fiber and dietary minerals including iron, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, and manganese.
The leaves, seeds, and flowers of the amaranth plant are responsible for all of the health benefitis provided. Amaranth’s properties include: alterative, astringent, demulcent, diuretic, and nutritive. Primarily, amaranth is used for diarrhea, dysentery, excessive menstruation, and nosebleeds. Amaranth can also be used for canker sores, bleeding gums, stomach and mouth ulcers, worms, and wounds. For more information on the benefits of this herb, please contact your local health food store.

Phytoestrogen

Subject: Phytoestrogen
Menopause is the time at which a woman stops ovulating and menstruation ceases, which indicates the end of fertility. Menopause is not a disease, but rather a natural progression in life, similar to puberty. Many years before a woman stops ovulating, her ovaries will begin to slow their production of the hormones estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Estrogen and progesterone are often thought of as the reproductive hormones.
Although estrogen is essential in reproduction, it is also extremely important in other non-reproductive organs and systems in the body. Cells in the uterus, bladder, breasts, skin, bones, arteries, heart, liver, and brain all contain estrogen receptors. These organs need this hormone in order to stimulate these receptors for normal cell function. Estrogen is needed to keep the skin smooth and moist and the body’s internal thermostat working properly. Estrogen is also essential for proper bone formation. Even though estrogen levels drop sharply after menopause, they do not disappear entirely. Other organs take over for the ovaries, continuing to produce a less potent form of estrogen. These organs, known as endocrine glands, secrete some hormones from fatty tissue in order to maintain bodily functions.
Progesterone works along with estrogen, stimulating changes in the lining of the uterus to complete the preparation for a fertilized egg during the second half of the menstrual cycle. If no egg is fertilized, the uterine lining is broken down and expelled, allowing the cycle to being again. Progesterone also has effects beyond the reproductive system, as it calms the brain and also affects other aspects of nervous system function. Testosterone is most important for both men and women, with women producing about 80 percent less than men do. However, it is the driving force for maintaining a healthy life and proper functioning organs.
The period when a woman’s body is preparing for menopause is known as perimenopause. For the majority of women, hormone production beings to slow down then they reach their thirties, continuing to diminish with age. Many women will experience few if any symptoms at this time, but others may suffer from anxiety, dry skin, fatigue, feelings of bloating, headaches, heart palpitations, hot flashes, insomnia, irritability, decreased interest in their significant other, loss of concentration, mood swings, night sweats, reduced stamina, urinary incontinence, uterine dryness and itching, weight gain, cold hands and feet, joint pain, hair loss, and/or skin changes.
Menopause occurs when a woman stops menstruating altogether. At this point, most of the acute problems a woman may have experienced are actually over and a new balance between all hormones should be established. However, women become increasingly vulnerable to other, potentially serious health problems at this time. Over the long term, the diminished supply of estrogen increased the likelihood of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and uterine atrophy. Osteoporosis especially is a major problem for women after menopause, with an estimated 80 percent of the hip fractures that occur in the United States every year being due to osteoporosis.
A proper diet, nutritional supplements, and exercise can help to minimize or eliminate most of the unpleasant side effects of menopause. The following nutrients are recommended for dealing with this stage of life: beta-1, cerasomal, coenzyme Q10, DHEA, essential fatty acids, lecithin granules, a multi-enzyme complex, soy protein, vitamin B complex, vitamin D3, vitamin E, boron, calcium, magnesium, quercetin, silica, zinc, l-arginine, multiglandular complex, a multivitamin and mineral complex, vitamin C, aloe vera gel, slippery elm, damiana, amaranth, chickweed, dandelion greens, nettle, seaweed, watercress, anise, black cohosh, fennel, licorice, raspberry, sage, unicorn root, wild yam root, hops, valerian root, gotu kola, red clover, dong quai, St. John’s wort, and Siberian ginseng.
All these above listed vitamins and herbs are available in capsule, tablet, or powder forms. When looking for natural alternatives to help replace estrogen naturally, look to your local or internet health food store for name brand products that can help restore an imbalance over time.
