GLA and PMS Symptoms
GLA (gamma linolenic acid, or Omega-6 oil) is a major component of evening primrose oil that many women take to reduce the effects of PMS and the menopause. Studies have shown women with PMS to be less able to convert linoleic acid to gamma linolenic acid, and that they would require a supplement of GLA apart from any other consideration. When they take a GLA supplement, many find their PMS symptoms to be eased, such as relief from depression, fluid retention, irritability and painful breasts. Many men will gladly walk miles to find their wives and partners a GLA supplement!
The reason for this appears to be that GLA may help to increase the production of the prostaglandin E1, a deficiency of which is believed to cause the symptoms of PMS. Evening primrose oil has been found to be a particularly appropriate source of GLA for women at this time of the month, reducing most of the above symptoms, particularly breast pain and irritability. A GLA or EPO supplement is certainly worth considering for women who tend to suffer more with the symptoms of PMS.
Mega-GLA 240™ and Mega-GLA 300™Borage Seed Oil * Hexane
Free GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) is
an essential polyunsaturated fatty acid. It is used to
produce the soothing intracellular hormonelike
messengers known as series 1 prostaglandins (PGE1),
which help maintain the balance of many functions in the
body. GLA supports the immune system and helps maintain
healthy skin and circulation. This essential nutrient is
incorporated into our cell membranes, where it helps to
maintain fluidity and permeability. Borage seed oil is
one of the richest sources of GLA. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
