Lactose Intolerance refers to failure of digesting and metabolizing lactose, a sugar found in milk and foods made with milk. It is cause by a lack of lactase, enzyme that hydrolyzes milk sugar into its component parts and assists in the digestion dairy products. Lactose Intolerance results in symptoms including abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, nausea and acid reflux.

In order to digest lactose properly, the small intestine needs lactase enzyme to break down lactose. Fortunately, Solaray® brings Lactase, a product that is intended to provide nutritive support for digesting lactose. Lactase consists Calcium (as Calcium Citrate, Calcium Carbonate), Lactase Enzyme Concentrate (Equivalent to 4,000 FCC Lactase Units [ALU]), Cellulose, Vegetable Cellulose Capsule, Calcium Phosphate, Mannitol, Magnesium Stearate and Silica.

With calcium, which is found in milk, yogurt, and cheese and other dairy products, added in this product, ensures proper functioning of muscles and nerves. Calcium is required for vascular contraction and vasodilation, muscle function, nerve transmission, intracellular signaling and hormonal secretion. The two main forms of calcium in this nutritive product are carbonate and citrate. Calcium carbonate is used as an antacid to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach. It is absorbed most efficiently when taken with food. Calcium citrate is useful for people with achlorhydria, inflammatory bowel disease, or absorption disorders.

Of course, this Solaray® Lactase could not fulfill its intended task without the Lactase Enzyme Concentrate. Lactase is naturally produced by the body which can be found along the brush border membrane of the small intestine. It is safe to take, and no known side effects exist. So how can Lactase be produced if it is present inside the body? Well, yeast, fungi, and certain bacteria create their own lactase naturally, which is collected in a laboratory for commercial use.

There is no treatment that can enhance the body’s ability to produce lactase. Why avoid milk and other dairy products if there’s Solaray® Lactase already? For those who have Lactose Intolerance, enjoy drinking and eating milk products with Lactase.

Lactase Enzyme – Can Enzymes Help Me Digest Milk Better?

Not being able to drink milk can make a healthy diet almost impossible. Basically there can be two reasons why people can’t drink milk. Firstly you could be allergic to some proteins in milk – but this is very rare. The other, more common, reason is that people are lactose intolerant. Being lactose intolerant means that your body isn’t producing enough lactase enzymes. Therefore, you have a lactase enzyme shortage.

Lactase enzymes are enzymes produced in your small intestine. This enzyme digests lactose – the natural sugar found in milk. Symptoms helping diagnosing this condition are stomach cramps, gas and diarrhea after consuming milk or dairy. Of course it also varies from person to person how intolerant they are to milk. The less lactase enzyme your body produces, the less you’ll be able to digest milk. Lactose intolerance is surprisingly common with a lot of southern nationalities and Caucasians suffering from this condition. One study found that one in every ten Americans is lactose intolerant.

Luckily this condition is as easy to treat as it is to diagnose. A great home test is to drink two glasses of milk on an empty stomach and pay attention to your stomach or the next five hours. The next morning you should do the same with a few ounces of cheese. If the same uncomfortable symptoms show up with the cheese and the milk it’s likely that you are allergic to diary – rather than lactose intolerant. If however it occurs only with the milk chances are you’re lactose intolerant. A doctor can easily confirm this.

To live with this condition isn’t that bad and there a quite a few ways to deal with it. Your milk can be directly treated with lactase drops which reduce the levels of lactase in the milk. You can also buy lactose-reduced milk. Another option is for you to drink lactase enzyme drops, capsules and tablets directly.

There are a number of reasons why lactose intolerance occurs. Any injury to or disease of the small intestine can cause a lowered level of lactase enzymes to be produced. Although it is rare, children can sometimes be born with the inability to digest lactase but more commonly this condition develops over time. After the age of two your body stops producing as much lactase enzyme and the problem can occur from then onwards but most people experience their first symptoms at a much later age.

Milk is a must in everyone’s diet. No other food or drink provides your body with calcium as directly as milk. If you drink calcium supplements your body needs other vitamins to be present to help consume the calcium – but with milk you don’t need any extra tools.

Calcium is so important because it helps grow and restore bones through your health and also heightens your bone density. Lactase enzymes can help you to consume milk and get these important dosages of calcium into your body. So why not try lactase enzyme? They are available without prescriptions, not too expensive and we promise you’ll feel the difference – in your bones!

As a dietary supplement, take one or more capsules as needed before eating or drinking foods or beverages that contain dairy products.
