How Artichoke Leaves Improve Your Digestion
Many people take artichoke leaves to improve the function of their digestive system. Not all digestive problems can be resolved using antacids, digestive enzymes and other forms of supplement. Artichoke leaves can improve the digestion of fats through the action of cynarin, a form of polyphenol antioxidant known as hydroxycinnamic acid that stimulates bile production. Bile also helps to detoxify the liver by carrying toxins from the liver to the intestine from where they are ultimately excreted.
Artichoke leave extract is also a natural diuretic, and in addition to improving the function of your gall bladder as above, it also helps your digestive system to function properly. Artichoke also stimulates the growth of prebiotics such as Bifidobacterium and lactobacilli than in turn support a healthy digestive system. If you have problems with your digestion or gall bladder, then it is possible that a supplement of artichoke leaves or an extract will help.
