It was first described in 1873 by Hugo Widel a chemist as he was studying nicotine. It was the third type of vitamin B to be discovered. Some of the health benefits of niacin which have been proved by experts beyond any doubt include: It increases levels of lipoprotein (high density lipoprotein) which cannot be done by most over the counter treatments by around 20- 35 %.
Very few types of medicines can achieve this. It also decreases the small LDL (low density lipoprotein. This has been known to trigger various cardiovascular diseases. Decreases triglycerides by around 30%- this is effected mostly when a person takes it in fish oil. It blocks release of fatty acids this means that the liver is able to function normally and also reduce chances of suffering from heart diseases. Helps improve synthesis of nitric oxide in the body and also enhances endothelial function. Reduces the risk of a person suffering from heart attacks significantly this was established by the Coronary Drug Project
