Over 40% of the population is deficient in vitamin D. Vitamin D plays an important role in keeping a person healthy. Without it, there's a greater risk for acquiring many health ailments, including but not limited to diabetes, obesity, heart disease, dental problems, depression, and cancer. Fruits, vegetables, and supplements can be great sources of vitamin D and help keep these ailments at bay and help keep a person healthy.
- In a 2009 study published in PubMed, people with low Vitamin D levels have a higher risk of heart failure. Additionally, these people were three times likely to die from heart disease
- Vitamin D deficient people have more severe symptoms of eczema. As a result, healing time also increases if a person has a low vitamin D diet.
- A study in JAMA Neurology measured levels of Vitamin D in elderly people. Researchers found that those with low levels had higher cognitive decline.
