For parents of children with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a disorder that can cause severe seizures, finding an effective cure can seem like a daunting and often unsuccessful task. However, new research on the effectiveness of cannabidiol, a compound found in marijuana, may give these families new hope. According to studies, cannabidiol reduced seizures by 50 percent in 40 percent of participants. Furthermore, cannabidiol does not create a high, and is found to be relatively safe, although some side effects, such as decreased appetite and lethargy might occur. Although cannabidiol is still currently under investigation by the FDA, it could be approved in as little as 6 months, making it a legal substance available for nationwide use.
