Blood sugar spikes can lead to all sorts of serious conditions, most commonly, diabetes. Diabetes is a fatal disease that takes the life of millions across the globe. So, what causes blood sugar spikes? For starters, your diet is the most important contributor. Keeping your carbohydrates down is key to keeping blood sugars in check. People who eat foods that are high in sugars or carbohydrates will only increase blood sugars. Along with managing a healthy diet, sleep, stress and exercise are important factors to keep in mind. Lack of sleep in combination with high stress can also be linked to high blood sugars. Lets not forget that smoking and certain medications can also increase your risk for having blood sugar spikes. All in all, maintain a health lifestyle with exercise, balanced diet and getting a proper amount of sleep can all aid to keeping your blood sugar levels down and not spike.
