A study has found that antibiotics are almost always completely useless for UTIs in older women. They actually may even cause more harm than good in older patients that suffer from urinary tract infection. The scientific community has gained a greater understanding of the types of bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms that are present in the human body. But, there are still certain groups that may gain some benefit from the use of antibiotics to treat UTI.
