Using Nettle Leaf Extract to Reduce Uric Acid
Nettle leaf extract can be used to reduce the concentration of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is a heterocyclic nitrogenous compound that is formed when your body breaks down purines, nitrogenous bases obtained from a diet rich in meat and meat products and also the yeast in beer. You need some uric acid, although an excess can lead to a number of medical conditions.
Such conditions are caused by uric acid crystallizing into needle-like crystals that can lodge in joints such as the toes. Although gout is popularly associated with the big toe, it is not restricted to this particular joint. Uric acid crystals can also form in the kidneys as kidney stones, or promote the precipitation of the more common calcium oxalate stones in the kidneys.
Each of these is extremely painful, and kidney stones can lead to renal failure and ultimately dialysis or removal of the stones. Some people have a high uric acid content in their blood for hereditary reasons, while taking too much table sugar (sucrose) or fructose in the diet can also lead to an increase in uric acid levels. Losing weight too quickly and fasting are other causes of elevated uric acid concentrations.
Nettle leaves can help eliminate uric acid and reduce the likelihood of gout and kidney stones, and also of urinary tract infections for different reasons. A nettle leaf extract can also be used by those suffering gout to accelerate recovery.
As a dietary supplement, take one capsule two or three times a day with meals or a glass of water.
