Is ginseng a natural and effective remedy for cancer?
May 17, 2019 09:35 AM
When one has cancer and learns that the type he has is treatable, it is a huge relief until they go through the treatment regimen. Thanks to ginseng, there could now be an easier way to treat cancer. Ginseng targets the stem cells that are responsible for causing cancer, or the tumor stem cells. Ginseng is particularly recommended because chemotherapy and radiotherapy have their drawbacks. They can make regular cancer cells that are not active to turn to cancerous cells and thereby increase the risk. It is only recently that it was discovered that a compound in ginseng, ginsenosides, can be used to treat cancer although the herb has been used for treating humans for centuries. It is believed that given its many effects on cancer, ginseng will most likely be recommended by doctors for use to treat cancer. Ginseng can also help cancer patients in other ways. It was discovered that patients who were sluggish and fatigued after treatment were helped to feel better by ginseng. Even if one is not diagnosed with cancer, he can still benefit from ginseng because it has so many health benefits.
"While you’re certain to be thankful for your life, it’s only natural to wish there was an easier way – and perhaps there could be one soon, thanks to ginseng."

New research on vitamin K suggests that it may promote eye health
May 13, 2019 04:19 PM
According to a recent Belgian study, vitamin K protects the arteries that supply the ocular organs with blood and acts as a shield against damaging calcification. The researchers found that vitamin K is beneficial for eye health in that it protects the optic nerves from possible optic damage due to glaucoma. The researchers were trying to determine if there was a link to vitamin K deficiency and poor eye health. This study points to a need for more research into the molecular pathways affected by vitamin and the benefits of vitamin K supplementation.
"Based on their findings, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) researchers observed that taking vitamin K supplements could help maintain the health of the eyes by protecting the optic nerves from injury caused by glaucoma."

Marijuana found to lower blood flow to the brain: Study authorssuggest this may increase risk of dementia, but this effect also makes itmedicinally useful for epileptics
May 10, 2019 02:17 PM
Scientific literature on how marijuana works on the body is rapidly expanding. Right now, there are a plethora of studies on how marijuana works on the human brain. Some studies have shown that it can be effective in treating disorders of the brain like epilepsy. Recent tests show that marijuana can increase the risk of dementia because it restricts the flow of blood to the brain. These brain areas are essential for memory development. The area most affected is the hippocampus which can result in Alzheimer’s if prolonged. The researchers for the study used single photo emission computed tomography (SPECT) to measure blood flow to the brain after taking marijuana and they reported that there were very low and abnormal blood flow levels observed. This is when compared with persons who did not take marijuana. 982 patients were selected from a wide variety of data sources that was available to the researchers concerning persons who previously used or were still using marijuana. The results of the study showed that persons taking marijuana were at a risk of dementia due to the low blood flow to their hippocampus.
"Users were analyzed using a brain SPECT and by conducting mental concentration tests against a sample of 100 people who had not used marijuana to determine whether there were significant differences that arose between users and non-users of cannabis."

New findings show mushrooms protect brain health
May 10, 2019 02:15 PM
The culinary world loves mushrooms because they have rich flavors but yet they are packed with high amount of nutrition and possess antioxidant and anti-inflammation properties. But new findings show that mushrooms can even provide much more. They have been shown to help in brain health. The research highlighted in this blog shows that when people eat mushrooms they have reduced risk of a mild cognitive impairment that precedes Alzheimer’s disease. The study was conducted in the National University of Singapore and used 600 human subjects who were given various types of mushrooms such as dried mushrooms, white button mushrooms, and golden mushrooms. The researchers found at the end of the study that participants who had consumed mushrooms had reduced cognitive decline especially if they take two or more servings of mushrooms each week as seniors. Other benefits of mushrooms beyond brain health are that it helps prevent cancer, improves the immune function, reduces weight, and is a healthy source of vitamin D.
"Beyond the new findings that show mushrooms may boost brain health and lower the risk for cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease, mushrooms offer other significant health benefits, too."

What are the best clove substitutes?
May 09, 2019 04:31 PM
Cloves are a spice that can be added to soups, stews and other dishes to add flavor. However, if a recipe calls for cloves and you do not have any on hand there are other substitutes that you can use. Allspice is an easy substitute because both spices come from the same family. Cardamom is another substitute but does not taste quite as sweet. Use cardamom in conjunction with cinnamon as a substitute for clove, but use less than the cardamom than cloves.
"Allspice can be used to treat bloating, cramping, diarrhea, excessive flatulence, nausea, and vomiting."

Powerful antioxidant helps us burn fat, lose weight and avoid premature aging
April 27, 2019 11:30 AM
Milk thistle is known for being good for the liver, but researchers are finding more and more evidence that points to an antioxidant called glutathione being a key component as well. The powerful antioxidant called glutathione allows our bodies to kick up their natural fat burning abilities which helps trigger weight loss in an almost effortless manner. Studies have also shown that a deficiency in glutathione can cause weight gain through a reduction in mitochondrial fat burning.
"Glutathione is synthesized from the amino acids cysteine, glycine and glutamate. But, as we age, two of these “building blocks” – cysteine and glycine – decline, causing shortfalls in glutathione production."

Does Hemp Oil Have Health Benefits?
April 24, 2019 03:42 PM
Hemp oil is a type of CBD oil that is extracted from the hemp plant and has only trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive substance in marijuana. Because the THC levels in hemp are so low (and legal), it does not give you that high affect. Hemp is high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and is a known anti-inflammatory. Some claim the fatty acids in hemp oil alleviate anxiety, physical, and emotional pain linked to PMS and other conditions. According to some research, the polyunsaturated fats in hemp oil may decrease cholesterol levels, making it a heart healthy substance. However, most hemp studies have not been conducted on humans and the substance itself has not been thoroughly tested for heavy metals, plastics or pesticides. For these reasons, it may be best to wait until hemp is more closely regulated before making it a part of your daily routine.
"Not only does hemp oil not have any real health benefits, but it may contain stuff that's actually bad for you."

How eating bitter herbs can fix digestive system problems
April 24, 2019 02:01 PM
Gastroesophagael reflux disease (GERD) is a common, vexing and potentially serious condition, but bitter herbs can sometimes help reduce its severity. The “bitters” used by herbalists usually include extracts from a variety of different plants. While plants produce bitter tastes to deter animals (including humans) from eating them, that bitterness can also indicate high concentrations of antioxidants and other compounds with valuable health benefits. Bitters can trigger the digestion-stimulating hormone called gastrin, as well as the release of bile and enzymes that break down protein.
"However, appropriate amounts of edible bitter greens, spices and herbs can provide important health benefits, and should be included in the diet."

April 22, 2019 04:19 PM
If you have been trying to remove all fat from your diet, you've been making a mistake. The human body needs fat to function. You just need to make sure you are getting the right fats. When it comes to your health, unsaturated fats are beneficial, trans fats are detrimental, and the jury is still out on saturated fats. To ensure your body gets enough good fat, fill your diet with seeds, fruits, nuts and fatty fish.
"Your skin is what you eat and good skin always starts from the inside. Aside from collagen and elastin, healthy fats also help to keep your skin moisturized and supple. As our skin cells are surrounded by them, low levels of fats in the body can lead to dry, flaky and irritated skin (4)."

Medical benefits of cannabis SUPPRESSED and banned throughout mostof the 20th century
March 23, 2019 10:59 AM
Cannabis sativa, otherwise known as marijuana, has been used as a natural medicine for thousands of years, prior to the development of western civilization. However, with the introduction of synthetic pharmaceutical drugs, governments deemed marijuana as evil and dangerous. By the 1930s, the U.S., England, and Canada all outlawed marijuana. However, over the last twenty years, there has been an overwhelming amount of cannabis research out of Spain, Israel, and Brazil, uncovering the human body’s endocannabinoid system and identifying marijuana as the new powerhouse drug of this century.
"By making cannabis “illegal,” governments of the West paved the way for Big Pharma to take over and declare its poisons as the only safe and effective medicine out there – “medicine” that, in some cases, was derived and synthesized from the very same cannabis plant that, under Schedule I designation, was deemed to have no legitimate medical use."

One of the byproducts in this respiration is superoxide, which may have a role in the aging process and other degenerative problems. However, there may be a metal that may help without hurting: zinc. And, some reseachers say, taking zinc with items such as chocolate or wine may enhance the process zinc has in breaking down the superoxide.
"A study published in the journal Nature Chemistry suggests that the nutritional benefits of zinc can be bolstered when combined with a natural compound found in chocolate and tea."

Magnesium is a very important mineral to our bodies and helps with our overall health, more specifically in the muscles and bones. It also helps many enzymes run smoothly within the body and is very important in turning food into energy. However, many people are unaware of the importance of magnesium and suffer from this deficiency. With the deficiency, producing energy cells becomes harder making the relaxation and contraction of muscles more difficult. Consuming foods like nuts, dark chocolate, legumes, grains, leafy vegetables, and even skim milk.
"Magnesium, as one is aware, is a highly important mineral, as it contributes to fortifying human health, especially bones and muscles."

The common causes of candida overgrowth
January 22, 2019 04:39 PM
Candida albicans is a form of yeast that is present in small colonies across the human body. Unfortunately, when these clusters grow to an abnormal size, the heightened populations can cause some serious health concerns such as mouth ulcers, gastrointestinal issues, and even psychological symptoms. Researchers are now finding links between the overgrowth of Candida albicans and potential triggers such as: fermented foods like pickles, contraceptives, the overuse of antibiotics, and several other contributing factors.
"However, when candida populations swell into an overgrowth, you can develop severe health problems."

Eating okra is an easy way to boost your immune system
January 15, 2019 04:38 PM
Okra, a popular vegetable in the Southern U.S. and Middle East, is a powerful immune boosting food that can help your body resist disease and maintain overall good health. In fact, studies using okra pods have shown that compounds in the vegetable can increase white blood cell counts in the spleen and trigger the secretion of infection-fighting cytokines. These findings point to the need for more studies on the polysaccharides in this green vegetable as a possible immunomodulator.
"Based on these findings, the polysaccharides in okra should be investigated for future use as natural immunomodulators."

Eating cruciferous greens help your immune system fight offintestinal pathogens
January 13, 2019 04:10 PM
The Francis Crick Institute has published new research on the useful properties of cruciferous vegetables in protecting against pathogens that attack your gastrointestinal tract. According to this research, kale, broccoli, and cauliflower can all help reduce your susceptibility to inflammatory bowel diseases. They do this by helping to mitigate the effects of a compound called Cyplal, which can inhibit your body’s ability to use a separate substance called aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR). This is good because when Cyplal interferes with AhR, it can leave you more vulnerable to gut parhogens.
"An article in The Francis Crick Institute news page reported that cruciferous vegetables are particularly beneficial when it comes to shielding the intestine from disease-causing microorganisms."

Peppermint essential oil exhibits powerful antifungal activity
January 10, 2019 08:47 AM
Researchers in India had a problem: fungi in grains that are stored in bulk where making people sick. grains once coated with industrial chemicals to prevent this dangerous fungi from forming prevented the food borne illness, but posed a separate threat to human and animal health in their own right. They decided to try peppermint oil, which possesses anti microbial, anti fungus, and anti oxidative properties to coat the grains for storage as a natural and healthy alternative and have had stellar results in not only repelling the fungi, but vermin as well.
"Indian researchers believe the essential oil of the plant can serve as a natural fungicide for Fusarium head blight."

7 benefits of glutamine
January 08, 2019 08:13 AM
Glutamine is just one of several free amino acids that are naturally present within the human body, but glutamine just happens to serve a plethora of benefits that most of us aren't even aware of. Glutamine has the ability to improve cognitive function through helping the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid within the brain. It can also boost our immune systems by building the gastrointestinal wall, which could be due to 70% of glutamine being found in the gut.
"Cancer treatments like radiation and chemotherapy are very intense processes that have repercussions on a person’s health. Studies have shown that taking glutamine effectively reduces the complications that therapy has on metabolism while still preventing tumor growth."

Researchers look at the powerful effect of mulberry fruit extracton insulin sensitivity
January 07, 2019 03:36 PM
One of the main chemicals in mulberry fruit is rosiglitazone, and studies are showing that mice given rosiglitazone had much lower insulin readings than those who were not given the substance. The mulberry fruit was able to accomplish this by improving the amount of a certain chemical called 'plasma membrane-glucose transporter 4'. This is what helps plasma enter the skeletal muscles. They think that this could potentially provide relief to those suffering from hyperglycemia or insulin resistance.
"The researchers constructed an animal model with a strain of mice that simulated the symptoms of diabetes in Humans. The lab animals were divided into three groups according to the treatment they received."

Male infertility can be caused by a taurine deficiency
January 03, 2019 08:50 AM
Scientists recently conducted a study that showed their male mice who had low levels of cysteine dioxygenase were also facing signs of low fertility rates. Cysteine dioxygenase is commonly known as CDO, and some refer to it in the medical field as tourine. Due to the high levels of tourine showing to increase fertility levels in male mice and vice versa, researchers are now presuming that the same may be true for human males facing the same issues.
"The study suggested that a deficiency in taurine, a vital amino acid which is found abundantly in the male reproductive system, can deform sperm and may lead to male infertility."
